What is Actor and Actor PID?

When you are looking at the advanced details on the Security history it gives you info on the date, target, target PID, Actor, Actor PID and action of a prevention logged .  What does actor and actor PID mean?

Actor = process or program that is doing the action (ie - trying to read Norton memory)

Actor PID = actor's (see above) Process IDentification number (used by the system and some logging reports of the system)

Hello Pippin

The actor would be the file that is trying to access your Norton product. The actor PID is The Process Identifier of that file. Every process that happens in your computer has a process number. You can find the process numbers by looking at Task Manager and making that column show up there.

Hope this explains it a little bit.

ahh thank you both. mystery cleared up!
