What is Norton virus removal insurance

I just renewed my Norton internet security/Norton Antivirus. I paid for Norton virus removal insurance. What does this intitle

me to? Dumb question just want to know.

Samjj

I have not heard of this "Virus removal Insurance" however I have heard of "Download Insurance" as explained below:

Download Insurance
Notice that when you have a Norton product in your cart, you are offered "Norton Download Insurance." This simply extends the amount of time that you can download the software, and comes in handy if there is an issue w/ the first download. If you accept the insurance, you can download it at any time during the next year just by logging in to your account. It it worth it? I'd prefer to just make a backup copy of the download on my backup drive, but you can decide if the convenience is woth the money.

Hello Samji

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

How and where did you renew your Norton product? I'm not sure either what you mean by virus removal insurance? Are you referring to this perhaps?

http://us.norton.com/nortonlive/spyware-virus-removal.jsp

Got a notice from Norton to renew my subscription and  on the invoice there is a charge of $6.00 and it says Norton Virus

Removal Insurance. So I just would like to know what I just payed for. I have looked everywhere and no one seems to know.

Hello Samjj,

Can you attach a screenshot or a copy/paste from the invoice that shows this specific entry? Thanks!

IMO download insurance is a waste of money if you are buying Norton security products like Norton Internet Security, AntiVirus, or 360. Norton Internet Security and those other products are always available to download using direct links you can find floating around in the forum.

Hello Samjj,

Do you get additional information when you click whatever link is connect to the Click here for help with redeeming your Norton Live service text?

I did not try that and only noticed it after I printed it off. So why isn't there a place I can do such now? Let me know if you can find it.

Hello Samjj,

What happens when you click that link? Do you still have that invoice on your computer?

No I printed it off. I no longer have that link.

Tim,

Samji is not alone ,,,,

<<   So in my Saturday morning computer chores I went ahead and renewed my subscription for two years but I noticed something before I went ahead and authorized the charge: Norton wanted to sell me virus removal insurance for an additional $6.99.

My first thought was: Wait, so are you admitting that your product doesn’t actually work? Then I read the description which recommended the insurance for people whose anti-virus protection had lapsed or who were installing Norton on a computer with no previously installed anti-virus software.

For $6.99 you get an unlimited number of tech support calls during which a Norton rep will remotely remove viruses, Trojan horses, and other digital nasties from your machine. It’s a good deal if you think your machine is already infected as each of those calls normally costs a hundred bucks. But what I wonder is how many people don’t bother to read the description? How many people just reflexively buy the removal insurance when they don’t really need it?   >>

Thank you!!! Got my answer!!!

Don't assume that what that blogger said is correct! See what Tim has to say about it.

NO I no longer have it on my computer.

Maybe Tim can explain what the Discount Tax $5.55 is for.   AFAIK Subscription Renewal (by itself) is not taxed.

Maybe Tim can explain why Renew is $10 more than Special Offers

I tried to get an explanation - two case ID's and via Feedback & Customer Survey & email to nortonmanagers.

I forget how long I've been waiting for call back from escalated support.  ;-)

Any lost days with Special Offers new product key are added back via Support (even with extra days for inconvenience).

We all know there are alternative venues for subscription renewal.

IMO if a user is either unaware of competitive renewal options or just chooses to deal direct with estore.

The user should be offered the best price.

This is an issue which has been raised many times on these Boards.  Are you suggesting that Symantec should search the world and, if they find a price that is 1$ below everyone else's, that should be the price they charge for that product?  Further, what if one is willing to purchase an older version and then accept Symantec's offer to upgrade to the latest version, without further charge?

Symantec have a professional duty to their dealers to set a fair price but then not attempt to undercut those same dealers.  We are free to purchase wherever we wish, whether we wish to accept the convenience of purchasing from Symantec, or seeking out dealers who are willing to sell at a lower price, nearby or far away from us, on the Internet or by visiting a store.

This is our choice according to our individual requirements.

Cheers,

drshlomo.

Hi drshlomo,

re > chooses to deal direct with estore.

The user should be offered the best price.

edit for drshlomo

The user that chooses to deal direct with symantec partner estore should be offered the best price via symantec partner estore....  $49 not $59

If my post left you with the impression that I am suggesting Symantec should search the world [...] that was not my intent.

My post and my opinion is limited to & directed solely at symantec partner estore.

Do you know what the Discount Tax $5.55 is for ?

$5.55 State tax TN.

bjm_  Hi, :smileyhappy:

I appologise for misreading your thread.

I now understand your point but it may be connected to mine in that Symantec may be trying to avoid giving a discount on their regular prices, except for those wishing to renew a subscription.

Do you know what the Discount Tax $5.55 is for ?

No, no idea unless it's a sales tax refund for those outside the USA?

Cheers,

drshlomo.
