I have Norton AntiVirus 2008. While checking my View History logs I noticed a message that a program called NUA.exe was allowed to access my network resources. Is this a legit Norton program and update?
Hi Phil, thank you for the quick reply. From Tim's previous post, I take it that the NUA.exe is supposed to update earlier versions of Norton AntiVirus to match the recent 2010 release.
You don't necessarily have to wait for the notice. With a valid subscription, you can update your NAV 2008 at any time.
One thing I should point out is that NAV 2010 (and NAV 2009) does not have an inbound Firewall as you currently have in NAV 2008. You should be aware of this when considering the update. You may want to explore the use of a third party firewall if you update to NAV 2010.
If you wish to proceed, you can go to the Update Center here and select the automated "Update Me Now" or "Choose My Product Manually".
There are 2 programs. One is NAV 2010 which does not have a fire wall. The other program is NIS 2010 which is a security suite and includes NAV. The NIS program includes a firewall. There are 2 separate keys, one for NAV 2010 and one for NIS 2010. If you have NIS you have the program with the firewall.
The older versions of NAV had worm protection which is a partial firewall. The 2009 and 2010 versions of NAV do not have the worm protection any more, so therefore do not have any part of a fire wall.
NAV2008 had a One Way “firewall” (Worm Protection); inbound only, no outbound protection at all. NAV2009 and later has no “firewall” protection at all.
