What is Symantec IPS Firefox extension?

What does the Firefox extension "Symantec IPS" do? Does it have anything to do with Norton Toolbar?

Hi,

Yes, that is just a name change for the Add-on.

Hi RonSD,

Yes, IPS and Vulnerability Protection are the same thing.  The protection involves identifying and blocking attacks that use known vulnerabilities in software to install malware.  Programs like Java, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash Player and browsers are frequently targeted.  Having a presence in the browser allows Norton to counter attacks that use evasive techniques that make detection difficult using network scanning alone.

IPS stands for Intrusion Prevention System.  Vulnerability Protection seems a more user friendly name but IMO IPS is a more "technical term" as the Norton product is actually protecting against intrusions.

IPS and toolbar are independent components.

Hope you have got  enough information about IPS.

Norton Toolbar is used for antiphishing, safe web and identity safe components/features of Norton product.

Thanks to all, especially SendOfJive and Thalir, for prompt, useful, and respectful responses. This is my first use of this forum, and I'm impressed!
