Since I installed Noprton Internet Security I've been struggling with those pesky alerts like "Norton Internet Security is currently performing a background task..". Finally I contacted Symantec support by email and after a while they suggested I'd switch off the idle scans entirely.
I cannot help but wonder why are there in the first place? If the computer is idle, does not it mean that nobody reads them anyway? And if they appear during like watching a movie, isn't it an evil, evil thing?
Not only that, they appera if I run some old MS-DOS applications under DOSBox, in which case NIS appears to fail to notice not only the full screen mode, but the computer activity as well, and keeps popping them alerts even if I actively use keyboard and mouse.
Wouldn't be a good idea to have a switch to disable the messages (without stopping the idle scans) and replace them with a flashing red on the NIS icon in the task bar, maybe adding a tooltip explaining what kind of task NIS is currently busy with, but only if the user hovers the mouse over NIS icon?
