When it comes to NIS 2011 the question "What was Symantec thinking" arises

Hi! All,

I have just had an enlightening day today.  After downloading the NIS 2011 software from the Norton Update Center and installing it I ran into a problem; the software would not download any virus definition files what so ever.  The only way I could update the virus definition was to go to the Symantec download center and download the Intelligent Updater for NIS 2011.  I contacted technical support via the One Click Support option to see if I could get this issue fixed.  That turned out to be a big laugh; after finding out that my internet connection (like several others) was not up to the task of downloading the updates period.  The fact that I had downloaded the NIS 2011 software successfully seems to have been a contradiction to the tech's answer for my problem.  And dispite the fact I am able to download the virus definitions through the Intelligent Updater and install them successfully also seems to go against the tech's information also.

I was told that because I am on dial-up internet that it is basically impossible to download such large size files and that I needed to get broadband to succeed in my efforts.  I must ask what about those who do not have the option to get broadband; are they just out of luck?  And to make my day even better after being disconnected from tech support my NIS 2011 software was deactivated and would not reactivate at all forcing a downgrade to NIS 2010.  If I had not had a backup of my system I would have had to start everything over with reinstallation of Windows; not my idea of a good time.

My system is a Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 system (32-Bit), 2.5GB installed system memory, current installed version of NIS 2010 is 17.6.0.32 with updates being downloaded later tonight.  No other security software currently installed. Due to the mess made of my system I was unable to obtain the logfiles from the NIS 2011 setup...........Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

So I guess 'Let the nightmare begin".
