Norton Internet Security 2009
A few days I installed the Hot Fix to resolve the Symantec Service Framework crash problem. I thought that everything was back to normal again, but no such luck.
I now have the return of my problem that shuts down LiveUpdate / Pulse Updates immediately the Automatic LiveUpdate kicks in.
To explain. Every time Symantec makes a change to the software of Norton Internet Security 2009 by sending these changes down via LiveUpdate then LiveUpdate / Pulse Updates will no longer function.
The only workaround for this is to turn off Automatic LiveUpdates / Pulse Updates permanently, re-load Windows, turn Automatic LiveUpdates / Pulse Updates back on again and re-boot the computer again.
This will continue to work so long as Symantec just sends down Definition Updates without any program updates.
This is what happens when I load the computer I find ..........
and the program highlighted
Scheduled Tasks
I have checked in Windows XP Scheduled Tasks but there is no entry for Automatic LiveUpdate either when it is shut down or running. I take it that Symantec have changed this in recent years because there used to be an entry. See the link below ......
Symantec LiveUpdate Not Automatically Updating?
I am also unable to access the Log at Scheduled Tasks / Advanced / View Log because of the following error message ........
There is also an article ID 310715 which says that Scheduled Tasks cannot run on XP with a blank password. As I do not have a password will this affect me running Automatic LiveUpdate or for that matter any scheduled task in NIS 2009.?
Security History
I have checked the Security History log and see a rather disturbing message relating to the IP Address disappearing from the adapter. I do not know if this problem is related to the above or not but it does get re-connected again ..........
If I save this log to the hard drive how do I then open up the mcf file to view the log later?

I have been using Norton for a long time now and have spent so much wasted time on the phone recently with Customer Support that it is now becoming almost impractical to continue using NIS 2009. It basically means that every time Symantec updates the software via LiveUpdate I have to turn off Automatic LiveUpdates re-load the computer and then turn on Automatic LiveUpdates and then yet again re-load the computer for Definition Updates to take effect via Live / Pulse Updates.
I cannot continue like this. Symantec / Norton has caused all this trouble attempting to make the Toolbar / IPS compatible in Firefox 3.5.
I have IPS working OK now but have the toolbar turned off anyway. It would have been far better for Symantec to forget Firefox and only have these functions available in Internet Explorer.
Can you help me with these matters please?
