When my PC is idle Norton 360 starts a full system scan but freezes my computer. I can’t even reboot my computer using ctrl+alt+del. I have to manually reboot. Tried running a full scan manually and still freezes - 8+hours. Haven’t downloaded anything new.
Welcome to the Norton Community
Please go to www.malwarebytes.org
Download, install and update then run a FULL scan. After the scan completes you should post the logs back to this thread.
I can’t complete the malware full scan. I have tried 6 times, can’t get to more than 12 minutes without it freezing everything. Have to do a hard reboot. Other thoughts?
Hi
Did you have a previous antivirus program and if you did, was it completely removed using the removal tool from that company?
Hi jenvg
When the Norton 360 scan freezes on you has it actually scanned any files?
I did not have any other virus software previously loaded. Just purchased the laptop in March and Norton came with it. Stuck with Norton to avoid a potential issue.
When I initiate a full scan it does scan files - just freezes after a few minutes into the scan.
Can you do a chkdsk /f from your command prompt to see if there are issues with your hard drive?
Please download SysProt here [Removed] , disable Norton's Auto-Protect feature (Settings > Real Time Protection > Auto-Protect > Off or Settings > Antivirus > Automatic Protection > Auto-Protect > Off) and run SysProt.
Choose the Log tab and select all the items in the Write to log box. Then select Create Log to start scanning. When it is done, a message window will appear with the location of the log file.
Please attach the log file to a post here; the Add Attachments links is below the orange Post button. Thanks
[edit: Removed broken link.]
The slingshot link doesn't work - I get an "error - page not found".
I have also tried a system restore - but that fails as well.
Sorry about the bad link; I’m checking on that and will get it fixed. In the meantime, you can download SysProt from here.
I was able to run this scan - 100 errors - 56 found in the deep scan, 33 in custom controls, 3 file ext & 8 in add/remove programs.
I attached the log...
