Correct.
I was working with it for quiet some time now
Hello again,
I apologize for my delayed reply. To answer your second question, the difference in the number of threats detected by two different antivirus vendors is related to how new variants of existing threats are handled. Some vendors choose to create a new detection name for each variant, whereas Symantec tends to update the existing detection for those variants that do not differ significantly from the original threat.
Let me know if you have further questions.
Hello,
Thanks for the answers. It's all very clear now. Good to know that antivirus-programs count their database of virusses in a different way.
I'm running 15.5.0.23 on the family pc and it's working great.
Still strange is that when I contacted dutch symantec support (before i posted a question on this forum) I was told the dutch version wasn't published. When I asked when it's going to be published they said; not for a while.
Obviously, the dutch build was published weeks ago.
But hey, the support on this forum is great, so thanks for the great support
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll follow up with my support liaison and make sure that the customer support agents in that region know that the Dutch build is available.
Hello,
I have 2 questions,
I am using the dutch version of NIS 2008. The version still shows 15.0.0.60 which is from the release of NIS 2008
I can not find a clear answer when the dutch version 15.5.0.23 will be released.
It's about a month ago the english version was updated and since it's a major update I'd like to have it.
I wonder why it takes so long to release the update in different language versions??
The time between the release of Norton 360 2.0 english and norton 360 2.0 dutch took only two weeks.
Then-->
In todays update I saw that the database of symantec antivirus only contains 74054 virusses.
Other security programs (like bitdefender) have many more definitions (around 1.000.000) Is this in any kind (detection etc.) a negative feature of NIS 2008 in comparison with other security suites which have more definitions.
Thanks in advance
Greetings,
From the information that I have, the Dutch build of NIS 15.5.0.23 was complete on March 5th and should have been available within a day or two online. Note that this build was not made available on CD.
You can download the new build here:
http://liveupdate.symantec.com/upgrade/NIS081550NL.exe
I will ask someone who works with Security Response to address your second question.
