The first thing I would do is contact our customer support:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/productdetail/contact_ts.jsp?pvid=n360_2.0
You can setup a remote chat session, and the technician can troubleshoot your system directly. There is also a document that might be able to help, though it recommends removing Norton 360 v2 with the Norton Removal Tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/norton360.nsf/0/9a4075c7502c0f2765257235000deffd?OpenDocument
I apologize if you've already tried this, but did not get the help you needed. Can you provide any more information about your system, or other Symantec software on your system? Thanks
I am confused...
I have a redX and Intrusion Prevention turned off after each and every cold boot.
Clicking "fix" makes it go away - until the next cold boot.
I have had two live chat support sessions where Norton 360 was clean uninstalled and re-installed, the registry tweaked and other settings checked. After each session the issue still returned on the next cold start so I emailed support with a lengthy description and screenshots. I received one automated reply saying my issue had been received and a technician would make contact, which they did. On this advice I ran live update from the command line but still the issue persists.
I received an automated email asking if the issue was fixed to which I replied with more screenshots and description but never got a response though I again had an automated email asking if I was happy with the outcome etc. I replied again (without changing the subject line) but again never got a response and haven't yet!
So, I went onto live support again and was escalated to a senior support person who after some questions etc advised this issue was known and a fix being worked on.
I was a little peeved at this because of the time wasted on a whole lot of other things when the issue apparently is known and being resolved.
Anyway I cannot find anything referring to this issue that I have - can someone here please confirm this is a known bug and that symantec are working on a fix.
Thanks in advance :-)

[edit: Merged two threads.]
I have same problem with 360 v2.0
I already tested on 3 PC have the same situation
redX and Intrusion Prevention turned off after each cold boot
Hoping to get some Hotfix
Are the accounts being used “Guest” or “Limited User” accounts? Please refer to these threads Link and Link.
I have the same issue. I get a red x warning that I am not protected from intrusion prevention every time I start up my computer. I have been through chat support twice with complete removal and resetting of my registry. This is an extremely long process and it does nothing to resolve the issue. I am logged on as an administrator...not a guest...but no matter how I log on, the problem occurs.
I was told last time by chat support that the "supervisor" said that a solution was "being worked on." I have just about had it with this "new" version of Norton 360, If the problem is not fixed by the time my subscription runs out (55 days), I am dumping this software and going with something that is compatible with Vista.
As you may have guessed, this problem has really frustrated me...

Thank you for your response and the links you have provided, they make for interesting reading.
With regard to my system, I am logged on as "administrator" and am the only user account on this PC. I am a bit unsure what is meant by "guest" or "limited user" - are you referring to the Vista user logon or is this a 360 account setup?
All the fixes suggested in both links have been tried on my PC yet the problem still remains.
Vista Ultimate SP1
Norton 360 v2.0.0.242
I have Windows Vista Home Premium, its an HP with 6gb of memory and its a 64 bit system. I only have one account on my computer and its the adminstrater as far as I know. I do know that when i installed a game recently i had to right click on the setup file and tell it to "run as adminstrator" even tho i am the adminstrator.. does that mean anything? and is there any way to tell norton to automatically fix any problems when it starts? Im mostly worried about my my gf or myself forgetting to click the fix button when we restart the comp. other than having to click the fix button I don't really have any problems with norton. Oh, and i dont have any other norton programs or any norton addon things. if that helps.
I am running Vista Ulitmate SP1. Getting the “your system is not protected” after each cold boot. Help Desk ran all the tools to delete the old version and re-installed. It ran fine a couple times then back again to red x. I did notice that when the system shuts down there is a screen that flashes up showing that explorer is running and needs shut down? I saw some other threads where explorer has had problems with 360 installs.
Referring to the links in my post above, this appears to be a known issue with N360. At this stage I can really only suggest contacting online support and report the issue or ask them to stay in touch with you until the issue is resolved.
ok, I just did a few things and I think i may have fixed it. I did 2 different things, the first one when i restarted it was still red but the second one when i restarted it came on green. i dont know if its for sure, but i worked this time. I did this on windows Vista home premium.
first step i right clicked on C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton 360\MAINSTUB.exe clicked properties. and clicked the "Security" tab. then looked at all that showed up in the "group or user names:" part to make sure they all had Full control under the Permissions for Users" part. one didnt so i clicked the Edit button and gave it full control. then restarted but it still came up red.
Second thing i did was, i right clicked the same MAINSTUB.exe file and clicked properties and selected the "Compatibility" tab. in there was a check box that was not checked called "run this program as an administrator". I checked it, then i clicked the button that said "Show Settings for all users" and in that part i checked the box that said "run this program as an administrator". make sure to hit the apply buttons, lol. then i restarted and Now i got it green and good to go. let me know if that helps anyone else...
Hi chrisbentley84
Well done, excellent work! Let's wait and see if some other users can reproduce this. I'll keep an eye on it.

Hi chrisbentley84
I was unable to change the security setup for [mainstub.exe] users<username> "access denied" however I am logged on as the sole user on the system and am logged on as Administrator. I did however change the [mainstub.exe] compatibility to check positive "Run this program as an administrator" - by default this was not checked.
So I did not change the security settings but did change the compatibility run as admin setting.
I shut down the PC and cold booted and the error (RedX) intrusion provention OFF was now set as ON
Congratulations, you may have stumbled onto an area for further investigation and an immediate fix for this issue.
My only change now from prior is that the task bar icon doesn't seem to open the application window whereas it did before.
Right clicking on the icon and selecting "open norton 360 main window" doesn't work now. Access to this via the program files folder is able to be done ok.
Hello Chris Bentley,
I tried your fix and it works. I restarted my computer 4 times in a row and I get a green check every time! That's great. You're a genius.
The only problem is that I now have the same problem as Motormouth. I cannot open Norton from the task bar anymore. Norton still opens from the programs menu.
So, there is still a problem, but I'd rather have this new problem than the old one.
Thanks a million...
Guess what? If you turn off the Windows Vista User Account Control (go to the Control Panel and click on "User Accounts and Family Safety" and then "User Accounts" and then click on "Turn User Account Control On or Off") you can open Norton from the task bar...
I'm not sure that I want to turn this off...plus you get a warning when you do turn it off...but this does allow you to open the program from the task bar....

I'm not so sure that this is good advise, besides as you said you end up with a warning icon in the task bar which is just as annoying as the original problem!
I have gone to program files\norton360\MAINSTUB and created a shortcut which I have then pinned to the start menu and I execute the Norton360 main window from that location.
I suspect this will be a permission\access issue that should be easily fixed.
For me, this is good enough for now until the tech's get into this problem and provide a better fix.
I agree. I turned it back on already and pinned a shortcut to the start menu as well.
Norton have released the N360 2.4 update today and it includes a fix for this issue.*
If users could run Live Update to get this update, then restart and see if it fixes the issue.

Hi johna
Funny thing was I didn't notice that, that update was loaded on my system during live update earlier than the posts in this thread.
As a result I went back and un-did the changes previously suggested and found the fix to be good.
I have cold started several times now and all without the intrusion protection alert showing. Thanks symantec techs :-)
However I can no longer use the icon in the task bar to access the main menu. Right clickin this will allow all functionality e.g. "check for updates" but not "open norton 360 main window" I believe this to as a direct result of the latest update and patch.
Can anyone else confirm this or suggest a possible course to repair?
Hi MotorMouth
Can you please try running live update, then restart your PC and see if this problem persists?
Thanks
