Hi all.
I have recently been forced to move to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7. I was aware from various comments I had seen that the normal "shut down" for Windows 8.1 was not what I was used to but in fact more of a sleep function which enabled a fast start up when the machine was next needed.
Now I discover that I can set up my machine to either do the standard Windows 8.1 "shut down" which should give a quick start up or to do a full shut down that I was used to, and which enables updates to be properly installed. At first I was attracted to changing the system so I had a traditional full shut down. And was encouraged in this by the fact that I have a Norton Bootable Recovery Tool in case of mishaps. Surely I need the system fully shut down if I am to use that?
But then I recalled reading somewhere that if you get an infection on your machine the last thing you should do is shut it down and do a restart as that is more likely to embed the malware.
So what do you think is the better form of shut down for Windows 8.1? A brief explanation of your reasoning would obviously be appreciated.
