Our trial version of IS2010 expired a whle ago on the notebook that we purchaseded in October. We connected online the other day and Norton started giving us warning messages about viruses, spyware, and being attacked by an external computer. Now I'm pretty sure that these were false messages designed to make us freak out and buy the upgrade/full Norton antivirus. We got a background picture that was a green warning picture that couldn't be removed from my background. Even after disconnecting from the internet, we were getting messages that we were under attack from an external computer. Now we had only opened up a couple of e-mails and none of them had attachments, yet Norton was saying that there were a dozen or so different viruses all of a sudden on this computer. I tried removing Norton, but there was still a folder that showed up called IS2010 that we could not delete. I restored the computer to Jan 19 and now Norton does not give me the warning messages (thankfully), but I still cannot remove the program in any way (either through add/remove programs or using the Norton uninstaller) There is at least one file that will not allow me to manually delete it (a .dll file) I want the program OFF my computer NOW!
Thanks....I'll give that a try to see if it works. I might not be able to do if for a few days....have an extremely slow internet connection at home.
Purchased the notebook (Dell) from Best Buy. Is this common for there to be rogue versions installed on new computers? I am so ticked....... Is that why Best Buy wanted to charge us $35 to have some files/programs removed (which we opted to not have done) - so that they could remove a rogue version that THEY may have installed on the computer?

You had/have me confused now; I thought that by referring to IS 2010, you were referring to the rogue antivirus Internet Security 2010, not to Norton Internet Security 2010 - which are obviously complete opposites.
It is possible that you were infected by IS 2010 after your trial version of NIS 2010 expired, and that is how you got all the warnings. Once NIS has expired, it becomes non-functional, so I don't think it could have given you those warning messages. If you are infected, then you very probably picked up the malware from the internet - it would be extremely absurd for BestBuy to preinstall a rogue antivirus software on the computer for a variety of reasons...
Please proceed to install and run Malwarebytes, that way we know if you are indeed infected with the IS 2010 rogue antivirus program, and post back to us - thanks :-)
Supposedly I had a trial version of Norton Internet Security 2010. But when I removed it, there was still a "IS2010" folder on my computer and the messages kept showing up. So I figured that this was still from Norton since it is Norton Internet Security 2010 (IS2010), I thought they were the same. Now I know that this is some sort of malware that I somehow got.
I appreciate the information as to how to remove it. I currently cannot remove any of the Norton folders or the program from my computer. So hopefully downloading the Malware program will help with getting rid of everything.
It may be a few days as I will have to get somewhere there is WiFi to do this download. I will post as to what happened.
