Why did VLC media player get blocked by NIS?

I have been using the VLC media player to stream internet radio.

Recently VLC reports it can't connect to the address I provided.

There was nothing in the NIS2014 history.

I checked the firewall program rules and it shows the VLC player as blocked.

Why did NIIS block the VLC player?

I am not sure exactly when this problem happened, but I did recently upgraded my norton internet security from v19 to v21, and VLC media player from 2.1.2  to 2.1.3.

Hi, Mike1776. It may be that as this is a recent update to VLC, that Norton hadn't seen enough of it to flag it as safe.

Have you set the Firewall permission for VLC to ALLOW ?

If you are sure the file is safe you can go to the UI and in Settings/Computer/Antivirus and SONAR Exclusions, exclude it from detection.

Hello

I just checked out my VLC player. I am  running NIS 21.2.0.38 and VLC 2.1.3. My VLC just played now for me. I then looked in my Firewall and saw that it was still showing 2.1.2 . However, it was still working ok.

Lol,  now you got me to listen to my music. I just got my windows media player into the Firewall. I also deleted VLC 2.1.2 and added VLC 2.1.3 into the firewall and allowed it acccess. Now I just have to find my VLC folder of movies my friend made. I'm also not used to Win 7 pro yet either, but both programs are now working ok. Thanks.

Hi, Mike. If that's the case with you also, you can always delete the firewall program rule and next time you wish to access VLC, it should allow it again.  Thanks, floplot ! :smileyhappy:
