I thought Norton was supposed to catch these things? How do I get rid of it? Is there some setting on my NIS I should activate?
I don't do add-on toolbars. I'll type into Google's find bar and search results come up. When I select one, even www.norton.com, to go to, I get redirected to www.find.fast.answers.com. And checking online, I see alot of people are having this problem. I was hoping Norton had info on it, not just sending me to fend for myself out in the 'wilderness' when an issue comes up. Sending me to sites to buy other people's products seems a bit unwise for a supposedly top shelf product. But I'll give the above sites a try.
Adobe adds toolbars for various searches and scans, as does Flashplayer and a multitude of others. The downloads come pre-checked, so if you are not really wiley, you can easily end up with additional toolbars and searches.
Doing a search for these kinds of things on Google always provide information on how to clear up the "infection." The problem is that it may not be an actual infection. You can't trust everything you read on Google.
Do not click on any advertising on the removal forums. They have to advertise stuff to pay for their site, but there are no charges and you will not have to pay. Don't buy anything.
Symantec also has malware removal, but there is a charge for the service, and if it is not actually malware, there is no refund for the service.
