Why do I need anti spam in outlook 2010 when the ISP connection is SSL IMAP and SSL SMTP?

When I start Outlook after a restart, it gets an error about the anti spam add on not working correctly. It says if the error continues, the add on should be removed. The next outlook start works. When I look at the anti spam settings, the they do not include an IMAP 993 port not a SMTP 587 port. These are SSL which from other messages it appears anti spam add on doesn't support SSL ports. Also, my software says I have the current version of Norton Security Suite provided through my ISP, Comcast.

So I want to know what good anti spam is for Outlook 2010. If there is no benefit or just little benefit, how to I remove it?

If I keep it, how do I get rid of the error that reports on the initial outlook start up?

Most ISPs have some anti spam filtering. Just be sure you are able to check the spam folder from your email provider. You may be able to set how aggressive the filtering is.

Outlook also has its own spam filters.
