Why do Norton try to charge us so much for renewals rather than reward our loyalty?

I received my usual reminder from Norton to renew and they wanted £49.99 for 1 year so, as usual, I shopped around and then actually purchased it for £19.99, a massive saving!

Why do Norton not reward us by offering us a great price to renew? Had I not been able to get a better deal then I would have gone to a rival product after many, many years of using Norton. I feels like Norton rely on a lack of inertia so that customers just blindly renew regardless of the cost - I shop around every year and very rarely with Norton offer me a better deal to renew with them. I turned off the auto-renew many years ago as that is just a con.

To add insult to injury I have received an email this morning to say that my licence has expired (not sure why their system could not see that I had renewed yesterday with the licence I bought) and I can have a £10 discount if I renew, so that is £39.99 to renew after they think I have left them - this is just immoral marketing!!

Come on Norton, there are rival products that score better in most of the reviews so why not look after us to stay loyal?
