WHY does Norton Mobile Security need access to my Contacts for Backup?
I do not wish to share my contacts or backup my contacts - this is looked after by Google & iCloud.
How do I proceed to protect my iPhone?

i looked at the attached pages and the blurb on the first three don't match with the disclaimer on the last.

Not what I said.
If you look at the Norton Mobile Security web site, you need to scroll down until you see the Android and IOS tabs. Clicking on the IOS tab shows what features work with it.

i bought Norton™ Security Premium for Three Devices for my W10-64bit PC because I assumed from its advertising that it would also protect my mobile devices (all iOS at the moment). I now read from your post that this is a lie.
thank you for your response, anyway, it confirms my suspicion that Norton is guilty of false advertising and just another reason to not renew my subscription next year and to never go back.

NMS needs access to contacts, because that is the only thing that NMS can back up. You ask about IOS. Is the original question about an Android device? The contacts are not shared with anyone. If you have not set up the backup feature when you install NMS, it will not be enabled.
And NMS is not very useful on IOS products. It only supplies contact backup and a phone finder feature. And you can get those features for free from Apple with the Find my Phone app and iCloud. And they work better. There is no AV in the IOS version.
