Why does SymAVScanDeamon always run?

Hi,

I'm using version Norton Antivirus for Mac version 11.1.1 (2) and just wondering why SymAVScanDeamon always runs?. I have noticed that It is launched everytime i start my Macbook. It takes 142MB of Ram, which is too much for me. I dont know that much about this issue but i think that SymAVScanDeamon should disappear when the program does not scan anything right?

Thanks.

Try turning off Scan on Mount. SymAVScanServer is  used to scan things whenever an external hard drive is mounted on the Desktop, or whenever you perform a command line scan. As long as the external drive is mounted SymAVScan has to stay running, but you can turn off "Auto Disk Scan" without losing much protection really.

To turn it off:

Go to the Norton QuickMenu (Symantec logo in the upper right corner of your menubar)

Select Norton AntiVirus

Select Norton AutoProtect

Select "Disable Auto Disk Scan"

This will stop NAV from scanning disks when they are mounted on your desktop, and therefore stop SymAVScanDaemon from running. This doesn't lose much protection because Norton AutoProtect will still scan the external drives that you connect to your Mac.

Thanks for your support. I turned it off and the SymAVScanDeamon has disappeared!
