Hi
Is the engine update for NAV/NIS 2009 products still being given out thru live update?? I've only seen one thread about that update in the forum. I don't think I have seen the same announcement in the N360 section, yet the announcement in here mentioned N360 also. I haven't received my update via live update yet for my part of NAV 2009 which is included in System Works 12 standard.

Yes, it is being distributed by LU. It is following the usual pattern of a staggered delivery.
Do you have 360 and NSW on the same machine? If so, why is NSW usurping the standard procedure of using 360 for the AV? Is it because NSW has the longer subscription? I don't know if NSW basic is still available, but it is a lifetime product requiring no subscription renewals and integrates beautifully with other Norton products.
Hi Mij
I don't have N360. I have System Works Standard which includes NAV 2009. I was making the comment that I didn't see any announcement in the N360 section about the update for N360 also. In the announcements for this Lobby, Tim made mention of the update for N360 also, but in that section of the Forum there is no announcement for the update. So I was wondering if it was still being given out.
We are glad to announce that we have completed testing our latest inline releases of Norton AntiVirus 2009, Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton 360 Version 3 and we are ready to release the patches
Hi
Now I gather since I haven't received the engine update for NAV 2009, I have to wait till Feb. to get it??? Over 1 million downloads of the update and I didn't get it?

I find this interesting. Since NAV is piggy-backed on NSW, you should still be eligible for all updates/upgrades.
Do you have any idea what would happen if you installed NAV 2010 as a standalone? Have you tried speaking to a customer service person about that? It seems that since your NSW is subscription based, too, that it also would carry the benefits that go along with the service; and those include up-to-date AV engines.
Hi
I should be eligible since I did get the 16.7.2.11 update when that came out... Last week when I asked in here if I will be getting it, I thought they said I would be, but it seems now like I won't be getting it.
I don't want to install NAV 2010 because I am afraid it will delete my unreal tournament online game because of that Sonar 2. It's a 10 year old game and most likely not too many if any people that use Norton's products play it. And I play it thru gamespyarcade which is also an old program. I live in that place and have too many online friends from that place and game to risk losing it. So therefore I just bought another cheaper version of System Works 12 and installed that after Xmas. It definitely does include NAV 2009. In fact that is where you have to put the key ,in the NAV part. I don't understand how I could have gotten the update to 16.7.2.11 and now I didn't get the update to that new version which was announced last week.
It looks like I am going to be the only one running NAV 2009 with an older version because it came with System Works 12 standard and that has been discontinued. My sub is good till 12/27/10 I think the date is. Even the update center says I have the latest version installed when I say NAV 2009. It probably reads my computer as having System Works, so that is the latest version since it is the last version...

By now, you've been around enough, Flo, to see the dangers of not having really up-to-date software. You need to come up with a plan for getting NAV 2010 on your computer, perhaps even NIS2010.
I'd recommend beginning by submitting your game software to Symantec for analysis so that it can get a clean bill of health. Then, by the time you upgrade to 2010, it won't be on their black list and should be acceptable.
Also, you could make a backup image of your system just be upgrading to 2010. You know you need this kind of back up anyway, so this would be a good motivation for doing it. After that you can see if 2010 works with your game and if not revert to the backup and that will be that.
Hi
My Unreal Tournament folder alone is now about 2 3/4 gigs plus there are other files needed for the game that if I lose them are almost impossible to find again since it is a 10 year old game. That UT folder grows as I play more maps since I lost my hard drive around Halloween time. I have the game backed up, but I wanted a clean install of the maps and other files that go along with the game. I'm admin of 2 game servers too, so I can't risk losing them. If it wasn't for that Sonar 2 and me seeing all the people complaining about the problems they have had with new files and new exe's, I would have updated to NAV 2010 when it came out or shortly after even if I had to buy that version instead of getting the free update to it. I can't submit a whole game to Symantec like that when it's forever changing and getting increased. I've seen people complaining here that they play other online games which are new and they have the same problem. They keep having to install the game cause it's forever changing. I don't want the gaming version of NAV either and that hasn't been updated to 2010 either. If I had reassurance that the whole UT folder would be safe from Sonar 2, then I would have upgraded. That was why I made a suggestion that there should be a custom install of the programs too so that before it is installed, we could put folders or files in an exclusion list before the program is even installed.
I do backup every morning, but it's not a mirror backup, with Genie Backup Manager Pro Program.
Hi Tim
Has the update for the new engine for NAV 2009 stopped now until Feb. even though I haven't received any updates since 16.7.2.11 for my NAV 2009? I assume that I am still eligible for the updates to the new 16.8 update since I have the program with my valid system works 12 standard?
Hi
I have NAV 2009 16.7.2.11 and have not received any engine updates to 16.8.......as of 1/12/10.

Curiously, why are you not using NAV 2010?

Please wait for a response to your same comment in this other thread since this thread has to do with 2010 updates.
Hi Reese
When I click on your link, I'm ending back here. Something is messed up with these posts. I end up on page 3 and when I go to page 4, I'm back in this thread again. Something is not right here....... I don't know where I am posting this now.???
Oops, the threads have been merged… that’s too bad because they are two seperate updates. Since this thread is about 2010 products, questions about the 2009 product should be posted in a seperate thread.
Hi floplot,
Sorry for the delay. If you do not have 16.8 as of right now, then the soonest you will be able to receive it will be towards the end of this month/beginning of next month. It was distributed and is doing fine, but there will be a couple more changes added to it before it's reposted.
Thank you for your patience. Please keep an eye on the announcement for further information.
Reese/Floplot,
The posts in THIS THREAD that were regarding 2009 were moved to this current thread, as the other thread was regarding the 2010 products. This may be way the last few messages are a little confusing. However, the posts are now where they belong.
Hi Tim
I wanted to confirm that I will be getting the 16.8 update even though my NAV 2009 is part of System Works 12 standard. I was thinking maybe that was why I wasn't among the million who got the update if everything was fine with the update. I guess you've stopped the distribution of the update before everyone got it thru live update to make these additions to the patch?
Hello floplot,
Yes, you will be getting the patch, just like you received the 16.7, 16.5, 16.2 and 16.1 patches

When you lost your hard drive, did you restore everything onto your new hard drive via a backup system image?
