I like PC gaming and thats why i use NIS09-small memory footprint, excellent firewall (I've never had to manually interfere with the permissions for any game/program) and fast updates.
Yesterday i thought i'd upgrade NIS to 2010 on my spare laptop to see what its like before upgrading my gaming pc.
The upgrade went totally smoothly and everything seems fine.
This gave me chance to look closer at the program and under the hood.
My main concern was all the extra 'bells and whistles' that Symantec feel compelled to add to each updated product-i know this is driven by marketing so that swish rotating screens and optimizers appeal to the geek and ignorant pc user respectively-thus driving take-up of NIS2010.
The issue is as a fan of NIS09(which gained much acclaim for its bloat-free construction) i can see this advantage being thrown away by symantec from 2010 onwards.
I dont need idle-time defrag (or anything else from Systemworks),don't need yet another browser search box and don't need anything but the minimum processes running/scheduled in the background.
All i need is a good firewall, fast updates and a solid AV/spyware engine-which i hope Norton is as its never flagged anything apart from the EICAR test files.
