I have 10 days left before my subscription runs out and checked the UK Symantec site (Where I originally bought my product from) and was surprised to see the sub'n renew is same as if I was buying new? I live in Cyprus so can only really buy from them. Normally, with say AVG or Zone Alarm you get a very good discount when renewing sub'n, surely Symantec should show some loyalty to it's customers by making it a bit cheaper when renewing!
I have been very pleased with my product, NIS, having recently upgraded from 09 to the 2010 version, and will be paying for another years extension but wondered what you good people on these forums think about this?

Whenever I have tried the USA. I have found they are usually confined to people living there or Canada and not to customers outside their borders. Before I didn't have a problem with Zone Alarm in the US. but maybe they were the exception.
Also, there is the problem with shipping, found some good deals in the UK but only ship to there and not outside.
I am sure in todays current financial climate some people may look to cheaper alternatives to Norton. I for one will be staying put but as I said in my earlier thread, they (Symantec) should show some customer loyalty and discount us a bit.....
Yes even in Australia I have found not many good prices even in the stores,I have to remember to look at the sale times...BUT they are rare and I don't like eBay for buying "deals".I hope the online store does get a bit more competitive.Makes sense to buy cheaply from the maker of the product than going to a third party.
I often think why don't Symantec offer cheaper deals from their own site, imagine my surprise when some years ago I bought Zone Alarm from the USA in dollars from here in Cyprus! Norton doesn't let you (Buy from the US.) which is a shame because they always seem to do deals there and the prices always work out more cheaper than the UK prices.
Never mind, one day it may change.
Kurt,
I did get the new upgrade to 2010 version the day after it came out. I know people have mentioned before this business of renewing without much in the way of any discount compared to buying from new. I looked at loads of places but couldn't find anything worth while. I suppose it is safer at the end of the day renewing from Symantec in case of issues. (Touch wood I haven't had any majors yet).
Disappointed to read that no discount given on subscription renewals, especially as mine will expire in around a month's time. To give Symantec credit, the UK price of NIS (including UK tax) is almost identical to the US price, this makes a refreshing change since we here in the Uk are used to paying more when dealing with overseas based companies (hence the phrase "rip-off Britain!). However, I will need to think carefully whether or not to renew, security software is a competitive market with some good products out there (including NIS!). Accordingly, I have cancelled automatic renewal to give myself cahnce to "shop around" and look at alternatives.
In my experience with security suites, and I've been with a couple of them, before I bought NIS 09 last year, you nearly always get 50% or there abouts off with your subscription renewal, which surprises me with Symantec not giving any. They appear to have knocked off 10 pounds on the retail price if you are buying from new but the renewal for us is the same price as buying from new? I would say the vast majority of companies offer discounts when getting their customers to renew their subscriptions to keep hold of them. I for one am shelling out for two copies of the Windows 7 when it comes out later this month around the same time my norton sub'n is due. I am giving it some thought about the alternatives on offer but unfortunately this NIS 2010 takes some beating and will most probably stick in there with it. A lot of people will go with the cheaper alternatives though and Norton will lose out here me thinks!
