Bought a laptop 25 days ago, need to move quickly on NIS purchase. All I can find in the stores is 2008, from what I've read looks like I'd prefer the features of 2009.
Retail seems to offer better price than upgrading the trial-ware versions, or downloading direct.
If I buy 08 retail box, when it live updates, does it become 2009 version, or just updated 2008 version? I know the virus signatures are regularly updated
Have Vista 64 bit, so I'm finding my options are limited, as I'm using Windows Mail also.
Couldn't find answers on how liive upodate works, does the engine and features stay 2008 version, or does everything get upgraded
to the current version?
Thanks for the help

The Features will stay N.I.S. 2008, although, they may get Updated from time-to-time.
Thanks, you answered my question, I think. I've used NAV in the past, say 2003, when I would update, the current virus was updated, but it always showed NAV 2003.
Just trying to figure out if buying retail NIS 08 would be the wrong thing to do, and it appears so, if I really want all the features and benefits of the NIS 2009 version.
Main reason I was asking was the trial-ware version of NIS 08 didn't work with my email, it was locking up, so I uninstalled it. Now from what I"ve rad 09 seems to meet my needs
Hi Flipr:
If you can find NIS 2008 cheaper at a retail store go ahead and buy it. You can then download the new NIS 2009 from Symantec and install it using the key you have from your NIS 2008. You don't have to install 2008 and then upgrade it to 2009... just download the 2009 version and install first...
Matthew
You can buy NIS 2008 from Computer’s Worth for a few cents shy of 29 that includes shipping. It took 3 days for me to receive it. It is boxed retail one user License. Down load NIS 2009 and use your key. That’s NIS 2009 for $29 for one year a great deal. Enjoy
