Will NIS run OK alongside MBAM or IOBit360?

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know or currently run NIS2009 (or NIS2010 which I can upgrade to)

alongside MBAM pro or IOBit360 wich both provide additional proactive antimalware scanners?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi,

I thought the advantage of MBAM pro was that it was designed to not interfere -- for example it can run with Avira Premium  and Eest antivirus without a conflict.   Since I own NIS I'd rather use it than switch... hence my question!

Could you please tell me if you've ever tried it, or know if the NIS/MBAMpro combo has been tested?

Cheers,

To clarify floplot's post. NIS and MBAM Pro both have real-time protection modules that do conflict with each other and actually decrease your protection rather than increasing it.

Free MBAM is OK to use as an on-demand scanner. IOBit 360 also has a real-time protection module and so should not be used with NIS installed.

I have been running Malwarebytes (paid - realtime) with NIS2009 and now NIS2010 for a while.  No problems.  No slowdowns.  No crashes.  No lockups.  No memory issues.  I did disable the IP protection module of Malwarebytes using the registry entry.  I'm waiting for the IP protection module to evolve a little more before attempting to leave on.  My 2 cents.

Using both of these AV programs can lead, because of conflicts in their real-time protection, to reduced protection and hence an increase in the risk of malware infection. However, it's your system to install programs as you wish. All we can do is give you the advice you asked for.

Thanks mdturner, memory went while typing that out and couldn’t think of real-time protection term, lol.

Are you sure though that something may have been missed that would have been found if only 1 of those products were used at a time, but the decision is yours. Having both running at the same time and if something does get into your computer which shouldn’t get in, it will be more difficult to get it cleaned up if at all possible with both running at the same time.

I used to run MBAM's real-time protection with NIS 2009 and never had any problems, that I could see, anyway. But I disabled it and only use NIS 2010 (upgraded) for real-time protection after reading about it here on the forums. Now I only use MBAM for a scheduled nightly scan and on-demand scanning if I ever need it. I would listen to these guys as they know way more about the inner workings and what could potentially be a very dangerous situation if 2 scanners were fighting each other instead being allowed to do their jobs. Just my 3 1/2 cents worth (inflation).

My favourite analogy is two baseball players trying to catch the same ball.  They play on the same team and they probably get along in the locker room, but when push comes to shove, they are going to drop the ball, unless one of them backs off, which antivirus engines are not designed to do.

Excellent analogy! :smileywink:
