Hi all, Can I install NIS2010 on my desktop (Vista Home Ed.) as well as my son's new laptop (Windows 7). He is leaving for college in a couple of weeks. My concern is he won't be able to get updates on a regular interval. Please let me know.
Do you consider your son still living at home but going away for college?
Or you you consider your son as permanently moving out of your household at that point?
The updates are not a concern, the system will update anywhere. The question is in the licensing of the product.
Floplot also has a good point to consider.
As DaveH says, the licencing might be an issue because the licence agreement states that one has to be share the same network in the case of multi-user Norton products; you can read more over here (EULA):

Also, as floplot says, you may want to contact the college about it, or you could also ask Symantec Customer Service for more information at the link below; you can chat with them for free at this link (for US and Canada):

I'm not sure about the "same network" requirement, I never read that.
I thought it was tied more to a household. When i take my laptop to work I'm on a different network, when I take my laptop elsewhere I connect through a brondband card that is on not only a different network but a different ISP.
However It's my laptop and it lives with me at my house so I consider it definatly entitled to be part of my 3 system license.

Floplot,
Thanks for your answer and advice on installing the app. He will be living off-campus, with about 8Mbps for a download speed. Let me know if there is anything else, thanks.
DaveH,
Can I answer the living arrangements after the first semester or even after the first year? But for the first year we can safely say that he will be here enough to justify being part of this household. Next year will be different story.
Thanks for answering my post.
Hello DannyZ2
The college student will be able to get updates any where he has a connection to the web as long as there isn't another security program that would block it or if malware should block it. Even though the student may be living off campus, he/she will still have to connect to the college system.. Please check with the college also as some may even provide the laptops to the students. Maybe not though with this economy now. I think the best thing to do now is to check with the college to see what their policy is as far as computers are concerned and then check with customer support. That's my advice.
