Will Norton Internet Security Key bought in India work in US?

Hello,

I am planning to buy Norton Internet Security 2012 (3PC) from India. However, I would like to know if the keys will work for my brother in US? He wants one key so if I give him one of the 3 keys, will it work for him in US?

Can he download NIS 2012 from the site and then use the key? Will he have any problems? Also, once i use the key and then suppose I format my comp, will I be able to use the same key again on the same comp?

Please let me know.

Hi,

yes, he will be able to use the same key, only during the activation he have to use the same Norton Account email and password.

You can also reinstall the program many times if you do it on the same machine.

Let us know if you have any other questions. :)

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

The key for NIS bought in India will work for your brother in the US and he can download and use any language that is offered. However, he might also need access to your mynortonaccount. Also, please remember that the language of the program is tied to the key. That means your brother would have to get any product updates from the Forum and can't use any of the automatic way of getting updates because then it would come thru in the Indian language.

You can reformat or reinstall NIS on your computer with no problems. You can get the link here in the Forum and get the key from mynortonaccount.

Thanks for the reply guys.

It really helped me. But I did not understand one thing. If we use the same language as English, will he still not be able to download updates automatically? Please do explaing this part. I am confused.

Thanking you

Hi,

Norton Products are not available in indian languages, so in india we use the English version only. So there won't be any problem for you or your brother. He can install it, activate it and he can receive live updates normally. Let us know if you have any difficulties.

If you install the same language version you both will get the updates. Nothing to worry about. ;)

I believe floplot was referring to the free upgrade to a new version when it is released.  Using the Norton Update Center to do this will download a version that is tied to the language of the Product Key that you use.  However, there are alternative ways to accomplish the upgrade that will get around this problem.  In the meantime, regular program updates and signature updates will not be affected by the language of your Product Key and you will get them automatically.

Hello cooldude

SOJ explained exactly what I was trying to get at. Also, since in India, the product is sold as an English version, there will be no problems in this case to get the new version updates also when NIS 2013 comes out.

cd,

Just to clarify -- you don't get 3 Keys with the 3 PC version -- you get 1 Key that can be used on up to 3 PCs.

What your brother will have to do is to make sure when he activates the installation on his PC that he uses the same log in ID and password as you use to create and access the MyNortonAccount that keeps track of the activations.

If he does not do this and you have already activated the key on your PC (PC's) then he will get a message that it is already in use and it won't activate.
