Norton VPN doesn’t seem to work properly with Battlefield 6 when trying to load into a multiplayer match, the VPN worked ok with Battlefield 2042 but not with 6? Will Norton fix this or is it something else that’s not causing it to work?
@Deskjoe Here is some information regarding BattleField 6 and VPN usage to consider. Your issue may indeed be the servers you are connecting to for the game itself:
AI Overview
Based on recent reports, Battlefield 6 (and 2042) does not officially prohibit the use of VPNs in its terms of service, but actively blocks or restricts many VPN services. Players have reported that the game often fails to connect to servers when a VPN is active, frequently resulting in errors or freezes upon trying to join a match.
Here is a breakdown of the VPN situation for Battlefield 6:
VPN Blocking Behavior
- Connection Errors: Many users cannot connect to EA servers while a VPN is active, often receiving connection errors that disappear when the VPN is turned off.
- Game Freezes/Kicks: Some players can connect to the lobby with a VPN but experience game freezes, or they are kicked from matches, particularly when trying to bypass regional matchmaking for better, non-bot-filled, servers.
- Specific Service Issues: While some premium VPNs might work, others like NordVPN have been reported as blocked, causing immediate connection failures.
- IP Bans: Because many VPNs share IP addresses, you might be flagged for “abnormal activity” or cheating if the IP address you are assigned has previously been banned, which can result in temporary or permanent bans.
Why Players Use VPNs & The Risk
- Regional Restrictions/Bot Lobbies: In regions with smaller player bases (e.g., South Africa), players use VPNs to connect to European or US servers to avoid bot-only lobbies.
- ISP Routing Issues: Some users find that a VPN is the only way to connect to EA servers, bypassing issues with their internet service provider’s (ISP) routing.
- Risk: While not explicitly prohibited, overusing a VPN to constantly change regions can trigger fraud detection systems.
Potential Workarounds
- Split Tunneling: Configure your VPN to allow traffic from the EA app and the game itself to bypass the VPN, while other traffic remains encrypted. Note that this does not always work for all VPNs.
- Switch VPN Servers: Try connecting to a different city or country to see if that specific IP address is not blocked.
- Use a Different VPN: Sometimes switching from a well-known, large VPN service to a more niche one can bypass server-side blocks.
- Port Forwarding: Some users have reported that manually forwarding ports in their router settings for Battlefield 6 fixes connectivity issues without needing a VPN.

@Deskjoe I’m following up to see if you have any change in your issue regarding the info I posted earlier?

I guess I’ll just play the game without it on then, it worked in Battlefield 2042 but even then it was a hit or miss when making it work.
de retter mere end du lige tror men vpn har problemer lige nu ved jeg der kommer en vpn men vad de fixer ved jeg ikke men ting bliver rettet
Have you asked EA Games about the issue? BF 6 is older, their servers are most likely the cause of one title not being hassled with only to have another nailed. I personally use Steam, all my titles are good to go with or without a VPN and I use trusted servers only. As a mapper and content creator I also run game servers as well. Never have any issues with VPN users getting into the servers.
