Will they work together

New computer, I have Norton Security installed, Dell representative insisted that I need "iolo System Mechanic 10.5 Professional" installed. He said that they would work together with no problems. Did he give me correct information?

This is the second post I've seen where a Dell rep suggested installing an anti malware app on a computer that was already protected. The previous poster was advised to lodge a complaint to Dell.

Brian,

Almost sounds like somebody is getting a commission on installs :smileysad:

I have reached out to a friend there to ask about the situation. I'll let you know more when I know more

Dick, please let us know if you hear anything interesting.

Unfortunately when Dell rep had control of computer repairing some issues I allowed him to install software. I wll call Dell Monday and file a complaint. I guess my next challenge is to completely removing System Mechanic without creating new issues. This is a high end gaming system that I am testing with my drafting sotware that produces alot of 3d renderings. I have always trusted Dell and bought all my computer for my business from them. They have lost my trust over $120 worth of software. I am in the process of ordering my next computer for my company from another vendor.

Hi DPolston,

Welcome to the Norton Community.

You can find information on the complete removal of System Mechanic Profressional at the following link.

http://www.iolo.com/customercare/kbarticle.aspx?id=KBA-02081

However, before following this procedure please make sure and create a Windows system restore point as a precuation because the above procedure involves making changes to your system registry.

Please let us know how it goes.

Best wishes.

Allen

As a user of System Mechaniv from Iolo .......I have the Standard version currently 10.5.4 .

This version will work happily alongside NIS 2012 with two important provisos' ........Idle Time Scanning must be disabled in NIS 2012 settings in order to prevent "real time " conflicts if users decide to utilize the scanning engine within Iolo  !!

and secondly......AntiMalware and Firewall Monitorig should be turned off in Iolo settings!!

NIS_SETTINGS.png

I only allow NIS to take care of the security of my machines......The many tools that are available within System Mechanic are very useful if used in a way that preserves the integrity of the NIS 2012 install !

If a user is not familiar with how third party optimization software can affect their core protection ..Then such optimizers are best left well alone !

I am amazed  that a Dell employee has suggested such a course of action .Even though I respect the Iolo software and use it myself ...I can certainly confirm that if it is not configured correctly ...It will cause disruption to the smooth operation of Norton processes without doubt ! :smileywink:

Hi bleeper24,

I always find it amazing and SAD when any company would recommend installing two software with real-time protection enabled. :smileysad:

Yes ....I agree ....it seems very unethical and has the potential to cause a good few "upsets " especially if new users who are unaware of compatibility issues come across this scenario !

dickevans might just be right when saying that someone may be on "commission " :smileywink:
