Win 10 and Norton

I downloaded win10 onto my laptop. I have two other PC's in the home with win 7 on them plus two Ipads and two Iphones.

First of all, Norton was not showing after win ten was installed although all my other programme ikons were there. I got onto the Norton help site and typed the problem into a box and got contact back but was then referred to an (engineer) who would contact me by telephone. A man did that and after taking me through a series of inputs took over my laptop to (I presume)  load Norton.  After some time of many boxes appearing on the screen and one of which suggested that the laptop was full of hacks he phoned me again and said that I needed to purchase a Microsoft package that would cure the problems. He was insistant that I must do this or I would not be able to load Norton back onto the computer. When I said that I would think about it and consider what to do later, he sounded very dissapointed. He assured me that all of my computer devices including the Apple products were at risk.

Is this normal for Norton help  to react in this way and try to sell me someone else product or was it lejit?

Opinions please.

Thanks
