Win7 Pro 64-bit hangs at Windows shutdown

I am having the same issue after installing NIS 2011 on a WinPro 64 system. Shutdown hangs!!

I see event 7011 -- NIS service timeout -- in the System logs.

Serious issue. Is Symantec listening?

Thanks for the response. I do indeed have v. 18.5.0.125. Norton online support already instructed me to remove everything with the Remove Tool and re-install. This is the version I re-installed. How do I revert to 18.1?

Hi saweinfield,

Had you already run the removal tool? If so then you should not have gone back to version 18.5 as Symantec has pulled that version off of the servers due to the problems being experienced by quite a number of users.

Did you take a look at the link below?

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Product-Update-Information-18-5-0-125-for-Norton-Internet/td-p/342696/jump-to/first-unread-message

The direct links to NIS version 18.1 are in that post. I assume you have the English version of NIS, correct?

Try uninstalling first and if that does not work, boot to SAFE mode and try uninstalling again. If neither of those work please let me know and I'll go into a little more detail about how to use the removal tool.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Allen

Moved to own thread for better exposure.

I might have to hold off until Symantec fixes 18.5. I also have Ghost. I don't really want to go through the hassle of uninstalling everything. Is there a plan to patch 18.5 for 64-bit machines?

Hello saweinfield

Are you able to uninstall version 18,5 via the control panel method and then just install NIS 2011 again.? You will not get 18.5 now until the patch has been fixed. They are working to find out what the problem is and to fix it. Thanks.

Hi saweinfield,

I would recommend that you do not hold on to 18.5 with the problems you are having. The "patch" is going to take some time to come out, how long no one knows but it is certainly not going to happen overnight.

Also since I see you are using Ghost do you have an image backup which pre-dates the release of 18.5 on the 9th? If so then you have the option of doing a system restoral of drive C to recover your previous version of NIS. NOTE that if you installed NIS onto a drive other than C you would need to restore both the C drive and the NIS program directory on that other drive.

Best wishes.

OK. I was able to uninstall NIS 18.5 via Control Panel. Then I installed 18.1.

Many thanks.

Greetings,

Greetings,

I am using Windows 7, 64 bit pro with NIS 2011 ver. 18.1.0.37.  I am not encountering any problems.

Does that mean I have to turn off live update so NIS will not update to 18.5?

Hi jesslorenzo,

No you do not need to turn off Live Update. Symantec has halted the 18.5 update until this issue is resolved. So you can rest easy. :smileyhappy:

Thanks Allen
