On the morning of May 15 my Win 8.1 HP Desktop Elite gave me a Blue Screen of Death with error code 0xc000021a when I tried to boot it up. I cannot even get into safe mode. The boot log says that it cannot load a Symantec driver, SYMEVENT64x86.SYS, upon bootup. It also cannot load dxgkrnl.sys. And the Startup Repair log says "Boot critical file is corrupt" but doesn't name the file.
From the messages on this forum it appears there was an unstable Norton update. I'm posting my message here in case my problem was caused by the Norton update.
I've tried many things: System Restore of a restore point (Failed), System File Check (Failed), Startup Repair (Failed), CHKDSK (no errors found), DISM (wouldn't work). Regardless of the startup options I try, Windows cannot start and simply provides a BSOD.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
