Window that opened regarding software updater

software updater which i didn’t even know was in my norton said to update four items. should my windows 10 updater not be telling me this? There is one cumulative update listed in windows and as optional. Is it ok to turn off Norton software updater? I think it used to be off. Thanks
Capture.nortonnotice it’s telling me i’m unprotected because i’ve not put on what they’re recommending. that doesnt’ sound right. these are not security updates by and large, righ?

norton also said i wasn’t protected at first and it’s saying that because i’m not put on these updates.that’s not correct is it? safe scan is clean

You are protected. And Yes!! The suggestions are do not use Software Updater for the very reason you are seeing. Windows should be getting updates from itself through Windows Updates. Please use it to update Windows. I also know that Adobe will automatically check for updates periodically whether you have used it or not. Allow it to also update on its own.
Also use the software makers website to check for updates since you will get the latest from them without having to second guess other software to be accurate.

Thanks so much. i remember now that i had turned it off quite a while ago and do as you advise. i think i ended up turning it back on ONLY because Norton was telling me I was unprotected. So clever and so unnecessary.

All companies are so busy foisting things on you, everywhere.

FYI!! Software Updater will run periodically even though it is disabled too. Just continue to ignore it. That is my observation on the current version. Glad we could help.

annamagnani - It appears you have already ignored 6 apps, these additional 4 require ignoring, especially the first 3 which are Windows Updates. If Norton updates those, as they are not done by Windows itself, they are not reversable. In my case, even though Auto Update was OFF it did update a couple of apps plus a Windows Preview. I don’t update previews as MS sometimes leave bugs in them, the preview is not listed in installed updates in Windows Update history so cannot be uninstalled.

I dont’ update anything from Norton settings unless it is from Norton. I have set the updater in Norton to ignore.
