Windows 10 questions from a tech person on CNet

Not me, I hasten to add !

As a computer tech who has to repair people's computers, I am still not sold on this. I have a few questions:

1. What happens when a customer screws up their computer and it requires a complete reinstall? How will this be accomplished without any media?

2. Is the Windows 10 upgrade going to repartition the drive? If not, is recovery information going to be contained on the same partition? If so, when this partition gets screwed up, how is the tech supposed to reinstall Windows 10 without any media?

3. If the user decides they don't like Windows 10, can they still go back to their previous O/S without losing any data?

4. If an enthusiast wants to replace their motherboard, how can they reinstall Windows 10 without any media?

5. If a customer takes advantage of this free Windows 10, but after a year they need to re-download it, is it still going to be free for them on that same computer or are they now going to need to pay?

A backup image of the drive after Windows 10 is installed would solve some of these problems, but you can bet that 90% of people will not do this, and when their computer is screwed up enough to require a reinstall, it's far too late for them.

As well, for the few people who will use an image, this will only be good as long as the motherboard is not upgraded. After that, there are either going to be driver/stability issues or licensing issues.

Something that would really solve all these issues is to have an ISO available for download so the user or the tech can create installation media. But of course, you would need a key. In this case, I would vote for using the customers Windows 7 key, or the Windows 8...oh yeah, that piece of horse slop doesn't have a key.

As I said, I'm still not sold on this. On the surface it looks great, but in the long run I think it's going to cause problems for people, especially people like me who have to figure out the mess later on.

Maybe we will have to consider charging people with Windows 10 more money for solving these problems.
