Windows 7 Action Center alerts for Norton 360

Windows 7 Action Center shows Norton 360 reports spyware, virus protection and firewall all turned off. I click ‘Turn on now’ which opens Norton, the settings show all protections are turned on. I have the latest version of 360. Have done full scan including using Norton Power Eraser & no viruses found. I don’t know if I’m protected or not, any advise?

Welcome jmacy,

Please have a look at this post by yogesh_mohan for a possible solution.

Thanks,  Dave.

Thanks Dave, worked a treat. Did do a search but didn't come up with that particular thread. Much appreciated.

Jean

sorry, back again. It did work the first time then I switched off to go out, when I got back booted up & action center came up with same messages. I went through the same procedures as before but this time it hasn't got rid of messages.

Jean

Can you confirm that when you open n360,  you see Protected listed in all four sections?

Thanks,  Dave.

Hi

yes I can confirm Norton shows all Protected on all four sections as well as the setting boxes all ticked as per original post.

OK Jean,

You may not like this option,  an uninstall/reinstall worked here.  If you would like to give this a go,  please backup your identity safe data.  Download and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool.  Remember to run Live Update,  rebooting as required until no more updates are available.

There is another option that I would not take.  If you look at the picture in your first post,  there is an option to turn off messages.

The choice is yours,  unless anyone else has a better idea.

Please let us know how you go.

Thanks,  Dave.

Hi Dave

I did the uninstall/ reinstall as suggested & have rebooted several times, everything so far OK. I had thought of just turning off the notifications in Action Center but assumed they were there for a reason so wanted to resolve the problem completely.

Thanks for your help.

regards

Jean

PS

sorry for length of time it's taken but at download speed of 65kb/sec these things take time, hazard of living in the English countryside, rubbish broadband service but still charged the same price as someone who gets 100 times that speed.

I am sorry for the trouble you had to go through,  but I 'm glad that looks like it's solved now.  I will keep my fingers crossed.  Thanks for letting us know.

Cheers,  Dave.

Hi Dave,

I wonder if you would be able to help me with this?

I have tried almost all the steps explained in the Norton Community but it still does not work for me.

I have tried rebuilding the repository directory and restarted the service for the action center but again when I do a restart it all comes back to normal. It was all fine in version 5 but since I have updated to v6, this has started happening.

Is there anything else I can do?

Hi pritpalp,

Welcome to the Norton Community.

You say you have tried almost all the steps.  Have you tried uninstalling,  reinstalling your Norton product?

If this step was missed,  please export your Identity Safe data to a safe location.  You can download the Norton Remove & Reinstall Tool here.  -  https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20110217171332EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home.  Remember to run Live Update,  rebooting where required,  until all updates are installed.  When that's done you can import your ID Safe again.

Let us know how you go.

Thanks,  Dave.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your reply. Yes I have tried reinstalling the whole product but that didn't fixed it either.

Any ideas what else I can do?

Thanks

Pritpal

OK,

My last idea would be to do a Control Panel uninstall of N360 followed by a reboot, then the Norton Remol Tool with another reboot..

Dave.

Same problem here.

5 PCs and 2 laptops on a network all running Windows 7 Pro.

The Action Center alerts showed up ONLY after upgrading to 6.0 and ONLY on the 2 64 bit PCs.

By Control Panel uninstall, do you mean a typical uninstall through Programs and Features?

If so, I'll try the sequence you suggested and post back.

Thanks!

Welcome btmcanada,

Yes,  I meant to uninstall through Programs and Features.

There are other options you could try first.  Please see this post for details.

If this does not work then please continue.

Please export your ID safe data before you begin.  You can download the Norton Removal Tool from here.  To download a fresh copy of N360 please sign in to your Norton Account.  Along side your product is a download button.  Remember to run Live Update,  rebooting where required,  until no more updates are available.

Dave.

Ditto.  Win7 64 bit.  action center alerts bug started after I upgraded to norton 360 6.0.

full uninstall & reinstall didn't fix the bug.

would be great to have this fixed.

Hi mgoyal,

If you have followed all avenues from this thread and you are still out of ideas,  since your Norton product is working and it is Windows Action Centre that is having the problem recognizing Norton,  it may pay you to post on one of the Windows 7 support sites.

Dave.

Hi,

Good suggestion!  I'll go post to a Win7 forum shortly.  Hopefully someone there has a workaround.

FWIW, since it was working with previous versions of Norton 360, I'm assuming the latest version of 360 is not properly communicating with Windows Action Center.

Other products I've used on my existing Win7 Pro 64-bit installation have all communicated properly with WAC.

In other words, this is the first time I've encountered an installed and recognized program not reporting to WAC as being "on."

WAC sees Norton 360, and even brings it up when I tell it to turn Norton 360 "on" for Spyware, Virus, etc...but 360 is still showing up as "off" in WAC.

yeah, it's more of an annoying bug than any kind of functionality bug.  Both my laptop and my Windows Home Server are constatly showing an alert status due to thinking Spyware, Virus, and Firewall are off on my laptop.

Thanks!
