I have recently ran into some media sharing issues and am hoping I have pinpointed an issue. I recently updated/renewed NIS and it's about that time I believe I began having media sharing issues that didn't exist before. Should the NIS smart firewall show "on" or yellow AND also when I go into the Windows 7 firewall it show "on" with the green check mark as well? I do get the usual statement when first going to the Windows firewall section of "These settings are being managed by vender application NIS", however I thought the windows firewall would be off. Reason I ask, if I manually turn off the windows firewall all media sharing works perfectly as before. Thanks in advance.

Welcome Aric, When NIS installs it should disable the windows firewall. Your description suggests that there was a problem with the install. To make sure that all of NIS's features are working properly I'd recommend the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool.
Thanks. I followed the direction, uninstalled/reinstalled and in the middle of the reinstall got a windows message stating "turn on windows firewall". I'm assuming this came up b/c NIS had shut it off while installing. So naturally I was hopeful this was the fix. I of course did not click to turn on the firewall. So after NIS was complete, ran the live update, I immidiately went into the windows firewall and it was "on" again. Maybe I'm not looking at it accurately or there is a problem. Doesn't this appear that both firewalls are running? To reiterate the initial post, if I disable the windows firewall all media sharing reverts back to how it was working prior. My fear of course is if it's disabled, am I protected via NIS smart firewall?
I'm beginning to think there is something causing a problem with the windows firewall. In the action center or under the control panel as you state it shows "NIS reports that it is currently turned on" and if I look under "installed firewal programs" it reflects NIS and Windows, with NIS being "on" and Windows being "off". However, if I go directly into the Windows firewall properties it shows "on" for domain, public, private with "inbound" blocked and "outbound" allowed. If I turn off Windows firewall from here all media sharing works properly. Am I at risk with this turned off and NIS turned on?
