Windows 7: "This program has known compatibility issues" when launching Norton 360

All,

Due to a recent Windows Update for Windows 7, some users are experencing a message falsely communicating that Norton 360 has compatibility issues with Windows 7. Please be assured that we have thoroughly tested Norton 360 3.5 and above with Windows 7 and are fully compatible.

We're working with Microsoft to rectify this issue and hope to have this issue corrected as soon as possible.

Users who experience this issue will see the following dialog:

Temporary Workaround: Please check the "Don't show this message again" box, and click "Run Program".

Again, Norton 360 3.5 (and above) as well as Norton 360 4.0 are fully compatible with Windows 7, and we're working with Microsoft to correct this.

We'll update this announcement thread when we have more information.

Thank you for your patience while we work with Microsoft to correct this.

All,

We worked with Microsoft to remove the update which was causing Norton 360 to be falsely identified as having compatibility issues with Windows 7. This update is no longer being pushed out through Windows Update. Users who did not already apply the optional update from Windows Update will not be subjected to this false warning.

Workaround/Solution: If you have already applied update KB976264 and see the Program Compatibility Assistant, check the "Don't show this message again" box and click on "Run Program". This will prevent the false warnings from reappearing.

Microsoft plans to release an updated Application Compatibility Update for Windows 7 through Windows Update in the next couple weeks, which will automatically resolve this issue for those who do not use the above workaround.

Norton 360 has been fully compatible with Windows 7 since Norton 360 3.5, and including the newly released Norton 360 4.0.

Thank you for your patience while we worked with Microsoft to sort this out!
