Windows 8.0 / 8.1 UEFI Fast Boot does not initializse NIS 2013 / 2014 correctly

Hi all!

I have switched to a PC with UEFI support and installed Windows 8.0 / 8.1 in UEFI mode. After that I have installed NIS 2013 (and tried now 2014). However, if the PC is booting using UEFI fast boot mode, NIS is not correctly loaded.

Still, the NIS service is up and running. But the GUI is NOT. There is no systray icon. If I try to start the application manually, the "Norton Protection Center UI Stub" is listed in the task manager but nothing happens.

Though, the problem is that no warning message / info message popups up from NIS. For example, some application needs to access the internet -> no popup shows to allow the programm access to the internet or block it. Same with AntiVirus. Viruses are deleted but there is no info showing of the undergoing action.

If I do a normal startup, everything is fine. NIS initializes complety and reacts as normal.

I don't want to disable UEFI fast boot because in my case I am talking about 3 minutes boot time vs 3 seconds (Raid Controller bus scan requires that time during normal startup).

My computer is as follows:

ASUS P9X79 WS with latest bios

ASUS GTX680

64 GByte RAM

Adaptec RAID 71605 Controller

Core i7 3820

I have tried it with 2013 and 2014 NIS version, using Windows 8 and 8.1, but no difference at all.

Please, do you have any solution for that? Anyway, how do I report this as a bug to the developers? Is this forum monitored by them?

Thanks!

Regards,

Sven

Hi!

sorry for the late response but I was out of town. I changed the setting but with no effect. NIS 2014 is still not fully loaded with the aggressive mode enabled.

Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks!

Hi TheRiddler82

This link click here is not for the same issue as you are reporting but there is a common factor that had me post it and that’s ASUS.

Try running autofix after booting using UEFI fast boot mode, click the Norton icon, click support, click get support (or right click the Norton icon in the task bar and click Get support) let it run then restart the computer.  It should tell you if any items where fixed.  If you get an error message about MBAM then just click on skip on the error screen.

Try posting in the Tech Outpost board of the forum. There may be users there with experience with UEFI systems.

Thanks!

Created a new post there.

Bye,

Sven

Has anybody any further ideas? Nothing worked so far which was suggested above. Do you need more system details? There are a lot of UEFI devices on the market. Somebody must have seen some issues. Otherwise it's my hardware only but I would be very happy if Norton can fix this, otherwise I have to switch to another vendor with no troubles at startup.

You are still posting this in the NIS board.

I'll ask this thread be moved to the Tech Outpost board, as I suggested here   http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Windows-8-0-8-1-UEFI-Fast-Boot-does-not-initializse-NIS-2013/m-p/1028085/highlight/true#M245863

Hi peterweb,

This post was moved from the Tech Outpost board by the Moderator.

So how do we solve this issue? If this thing is always coming back to the wrong place? Is there any way to submit officially to Symantec this issue as a bug? I can't believe that this would not be possible.

Thanks again

Sorry for the confusion TheRiddler82

I had suggested the Tech Outpost because the issue seems to have something to do with the UEFI startup, which I know nothing about, rather than the Norton product.

It could be a combination, but the Norton part can be dealt with in the original post in the NIS board, and someone with UEFI experience might be able to comment on any setting related to that.

Just had a thought.

As I say I know nothing about the UEFI systems, but are you sure it is a UEFI fast boot process and not the new startup processes for Win 8?
