Windows 8 action center says Norton not working

The Action Center in Windows 8 says that the firewall and antivirus are turned off, yet Norton shows that they are working fine.  I've read some posts about this but can't seem to find a solution, other than some "patch" that may be available.  Can you help?

I have essentially the same problem.  Win 8 Pro, NIS 2013.  Action Center says everything not working, and I havhe no icon for NIS on the taskbar and opening NIS by clicking the icon generates zero response.  I have uninstalled using the norton removal tool and reinstalled with latest versions and it'l work until reboot.  The norton stub service is shown as running, bit when I try to do scans from explorer, I get a message that NIS had an internal error.

I've seen this reported multiplpe times with no solutions other than to delete NIS 2013 and use the latest NIS 2012.  I'm hoping to add my experience to the mix and move some sort of solution for this.

I'm trying to find out the latest status of the interaction between Action Center and security applications (not just Norton).

If you have a new computer that came with Windows 8 can you tell us what trial installation of a security application came preinstalled as most computers seem to and how you removed it before installing NIS.

Unless it actually was NIS it is necessary to uninstall in the ususal way and then to use a special cleanup tool that in most cases can be downloaded from the website of the application. So please fill us in on this and we can point you in the right direction.

Interference between a previous application and the Norton installer is often a cause of what you describe.
