Technet subscriber, and i am learning the joys that are windows 8. I have had the beta of 2013 for a few weeks without problems. I then installed the release of 2013 via upgrade to my beta. This cause a strange problem with a lockup after login, the explorer GUI would load along with the windows 8 tile interface. I have a dual monitor setup so on monitor 2 I can see the explorer desktop and the explorer bar at the bottom. The icons would begin to fade into the toolbar but stop about 1/2 way through the process. At which time the only thing i can do is right click on the second desktop and terminate explorer. after explorer resets then the computer works fine.
Thinking this was a beta upgrade problem, i uninstalled norton 2013 all together and rebooted and reinstalled. the problem did NOT occur on the first reboot. however after leaving my computer on overnight the problem returned the next day. This leads me to believe it is something being handed out by liveupdate, but i cannot be sure. Often after the explorer reset I will have 2 norton anti-virus icons in my system tray, but not always.
If i uninstall norton 2013 the problem goes away entirely. I am currently running version 20.1.1.2
This also may be related to the "icon load delay" problem some users are reporting. Not sure how windows 8 would handle that but it could be related. I also have an SSD boot drive which some users have reported with the problem as well (crucial 512mb M4 firmare 000F)
