I've had Norton 360 on a laptop computer for almost 6 months now and recently my computer crashed and while trying to repair it I found that I couldn't open Norton 360 at all and then my WiFi adapter on my computer suddenly wouldn't work so I plugged in an Ethernet cord from my router and then I went to "Safe Mode" and downloaded "Norton Power Eraser" saved it to the desktop, closed all the running programs and ran the Power Eraser. It came up with two items that it said needed to be removed, so I continued and had them removed. I still couldn't open Norton 360, so I then downloaded the "Remove Norton and Reinstall software" I couldn't get it to work so I had to manually remove Norton 360 completely then reinstall it. Finally I was able to open Norton 360 and run a complete scan of the entire computer which showed I had 14 issues of which 6 were viruses and the rest were cookies and after removing the only one that Norton 360 didn't automatically remove I thought everything was repaired with the exception of the WiFi adapter and I continually tried to "enable" the WiFi adapter but it wouldn't work. Then after I rebooted my computer the Action Center opened with notices that my computer was "At Risk" because Norton was not turned on. Every time I open the Action Center the Security section shows that "Spyware and unwanted software protection" and "Virus protection" are both turned off. When I click "Turn on now" a window opens asking if I want to run the program. I click "Yes, I trust the publisher and want to run this program", but each time it just doesn't do anything.
After all this I decided to logon here and see if I could find any answers to my problem and all the time the computer kept running slower and slower until I finally went to another computer to post this.
I realize the adapter isn't a Norton issue but I'm wondering if all the problems I'm having are all related and that possibly a virus is causing it.
I have no idea what it is and I'm not sure what to do next with it??? Is there a fix for this?? Any information or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
The computer is an HP Pavillon running Windows 7
Hi Dave,
It's Norton 360 6.0 version 20.2.0.19 and the OS is Windows 7 64 bit. I also ran Norton 360 live update until there were no more updates available.
It is entirely possible that your problems are all virus related. NPE is very aggressive and it may help to know exactly what it found and removed. So your ethernet cord works in safe mode. Does the wireless adapter work in safe mode? Does the ethernet cord work in normal mode?
How does the wireless device appear in system device manager? Is it enabled or disabled. Have you located or downloaded the drivers for the wireless device in case they are damaged?
Download, install Malwarebytes trial. Run and advise findings.
