I think that might be that you cant have two anti-spywares on at the same time. I have vista Home premium and I use NAV2008 as my primary, always on. But I do run a nightly quick scan with Windows defender and once in a while a full scan

Thank you for your reply. It doesn’t explain however why the system and health report generates the messages I am getting.I was already running Norton360v2 before I renewed it from a disc and I didn’t have this problem before.

I had to do a full destructive recovery on my laptop which has Vista Home Premium. After installing all the Windows Updates and SP1,I installed Norton360v2 from a disc.I noticed that after installing Norton,it had switched Windows Defender off.Is this normal and can I leave it off and trust Norton to cover all my security?

Also, when I go into "Reliability and Performance Monitor" and generate a "System and Health Report",it shows the message"The security center reports that there is no anti-spyware product actively protecting this system" and The security center has not recorded an anti-virus product".This happens whether Windows Defender is switched on or off. When I go into Windows Security Center, everything shows o.k. and green.P.S.I am UK based.

By default, Windows Defender is turned off when Norton 360 v2 is installed. I would recomend to trust Norton 360 v2 for your security.

As for the "Reliability and Performance Monitor", I'm unsure as to why it is reporting inaccurate information. Please make sure you have the latest updates for Norton 360 v2 installed (v2.4.0.4) and see if that resolves the issue. If not, please post more information about this report. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply.I will turn Windows Defender off.I have just done a live update but I don’t know how to tell which version I have.I recently installed it from a CD.Also, could you tell me what further information you want regarding my problem.(U.K.based)

If you check the Help & Support > About link, it will tell you the full verison. Thanks!

Windows Defender is unreliable. Tried to use it to remove a virus on a badly infected computer; partially removed it, gave me a rundll error on startup. Norton 360 stepped in and took up the slack, removed all traces. Vista, right? Turning on Windows Defender isn't going to harm you, its nice having 2 bodyguards instead of one, even if one is ... subpar?

On Vista,

Yes it is an known inconsistancy. Windows Security Center, under Antivirus, has 2 subcatorgories, one for Antivirus and one for Anti-spyware. Norton will cover all the bases for you.

Thank you very much for the replies.I am more at ease now with my security.
