Hi all, new here, so I hope I'm posting correctly. The computer I am asking about is running Norton Anti-Virus 2011, I believe, with Windows 7, 64 bit.
I am trying to help my father-in-law troubleshoot an issue with his laptop. A few days ago (12/19 or 12/20) he started having trouble accessing his email. He said he was checking email when he inadvertantly opened a spam mail. About the same time, Norton popped open with some message. He wasn't sure what it was and he thought he just closed the window.
Since then, he has been unable to get in to check his email through Verizon. When you click on the link to sign-in, it acts as if it is loading but never does. The address bar seems to be flashing where the lock symbol is to the right of the address. I looked in the Norton history after trying to get to the site myself and noticed that every time I tried to access the site, it showed an "Unauthorized access blocked" with the actor being "C:\WINDOWS\SYTEM32\SERVICES.EXE". It also runs high CPU usage when this happens.
I have run a full system scan and a customized scan on the WINDOWS folder. There are no problems being reported. Everything I have read seems to indicate this is fairly normal and not a problem. However, it *seems* to be related to not being able to access the site. We have not had any problems accessing any other sites.
Thank you for any help you can give, and please let me know of any other information you may need.
