Windows Update Error 80072ee2

I noticed yesterday that Windows Update has failed since 10 September 2012 with Error 80072ee2.

 

I am running Norton 360 Version 20.1.1.2 on Windows 7 64 bit.

 

I have tried Microsoft Fix it  and I have also tried running Liveupdate manually until there are no more updates to run. I have also run the automatic troubleshooter on the Microsoft Support Website and the Norton Autofix in the Support section. All these attempts have failed to correct the issue.

 

The only way I can get Windows update to work is to disable the Firewall and then manually run Windows Update. This works perfectly.

 

How can I correct the issue?

I am no expert in the area of the but, which firewall are you talking about?

 

The Windows Firewall should remain disabled if Norton is installed. 

 

The Norton Firewall should not block any Windows Updates using it's Default settings.  Have you created some rules which may be blocking Win updates?

I use Norton Firewall and it is this one which I disabled while I ran Windows Update. The Firewall has not been modified in anyway from the default setup when 360 was loaded/ upgraded.

Hi. I finally decided to use the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool to reload Norton 360. This seems to have solved the problem.
