Windows updates

I have a problem that may or may not be related to NIS but I have to

start somewhere.

I have three XP Home SP3 PCs with a recently renewed NIS 2010 [353 days

left] on each of the three PCs.

Two of the PCs have not exhibited the problem, just the one PC which is

directly connected to the internet via a USB DSL modem. I have a hub not

a router.

This week there are a lot of Microsoft updates which I have dowloaded

and installed without problems on two of the PCs.

The third PC will list the updates, 10 of them, but, when I click on

install, the Installing Updates window comes up stating that "The updates are being downloaded and installed" but nothing happens.

When I click on Cancel and close the resulting "some updates were not

installed" window the main window then states, among other things,

"Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being

downloaded or installed"

I have checked the NIS settings on all three PCs and can see no

difference between any of them, all are at 17.7.0.12 and I cannot any

setting that is different on the PC with the problem.

Apart from renewing my NIS I have changed nothing on the problem PC

which has been in use for several years and which has never had problems

with Windows updates before.

Any help or suggestions would be most welcome.

Kind Regards

John
