I had been running Norton Internet Security 2007 beforehand with no problems and upgraded to 2008 a few months previous to the problem. The only program I run in addition to Windows Vista is Microsoft Office 2007. The problem occurred the morning after I ran the service patch.

I have had nearly the same situation, when upgrading XP SP2 to Vista Ultimate SP1 all-in-one.
With the first 2 or 3 attemptes to upgrade I got this error 3038.107 everytime I did a " Full Av-scan".
This errorcode happend in the same Windows-folder - inf.
An installation of N360 v2 cleanup everything and after reinstalling NIS 2008 I have had no errorcodes
at all.
The last time this errorcode came up was April 12th, so for 3 weeks now my system is working ok.
There must be some files left behind causing your issue, chili.
Stu, could a cleaning using the NRT do the job?

It's most certainly worth a shot.
First use the NRT tool to be sure your machine is Symantec clean. Than reinstall 2008
Now I am afraid to install the service pack.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Yes, I have encountered the same problem and have replicated the same things you have mentioned. Vista SP1 has been problamatic with NIS 2008. I hope Symantec can solve this problem qucikly because it is quite annoying.

I have since my last reply uninstalled Nis 2008 and reinstalled it again. This improved my setup a bit.
An upgrade to the latest version 15.5.0.23 has been working 2-3 days and is so far an improvement
without any issues or error messages. It is also faster.
My experience is not long enough to say more at the moment.
I hope there are other users with longer experience, that can tell you about this.
There are publications on other forum that say Vista SP1 is the cause of this.
I have at the moment not any indications were I can say the cause is.
It is not clear to me.

I have the same problem. The full scan within VISTA 32bit crashes with the error message 3038, 107 - each time with a different file from "C:\...\DriverStore\FileRepository...". Deactivating the scan of compressed files didn't solve the problem for me.
What can I do?
Btw: Refusing email support by Symantec is really annoying...

Hi everyone.....
I just got a laptop running Vista from Dell 4 days ago and I am having the same problem. A Symantec tech spent 3 hours working on my computer remotely and was not able to solve the problem. He uninstalled NIS2008 and removed all associated files in the registry. He then reinstalled NIS2008 and it still is not working correctly. The computer is updated according to Microsoft and it is up to date with Symantec live update. I can do a quick system scan no problem but as soon as I do a full system scan the error occurs anywhere from 50,000 file to 113,000 files (different everytime). I tried unchecking the scan compressed files option and it still doesn't work. Please please please someone hellllllp!

So after doing multiple custom scans I found that the problem is within the "c:\windows\software distribution\download" folder
If I do a full computer scan minus that folder it works fine...
Is that where NIS2008 was having a error for everyone else?
Any advice to what I should do with the software distribution\download folder?
