Windows Web Watchdog

My wife’s laptop became infected with Windows Web Watchdog within the last 24 hours. Apparently, her Norton 360 didn’t catch it, even with her virus profiles up to date.  I looked on both Symantec’s and Microsoft’s Web sites, but neither company seems to know about this virus. And when I went to the Norton Community, there was no information. When I Googled “Windows Web Watchdog”, I found a half dozen postings with various software for sale to remove Watchdog – none of which I recognize or trust. Is Symantec working on a way to remove this?

Hi. Unless you're comfortable removing this malware yourself, I'd suggest one of the free malware removal sites where a trained volunteer will help clean up your wife's computer. BleepingComputer is one, but they can be busy.

Thanks for your recommendation about bleepingcomputer.com! Their instructions got rid of Watchdog. I'm still puzzled that Norton continues to be oblivious to this strain of malware.
