Windows XP Clone Boot Solution Using Ghost 15

I recently copied my old XP (Service Pack 3) drive from a 160GB Seagate to a Western Digital 640GB drive and could NOT get the new 640GB drive to boot.  While I selected the boot option, the new drive would not boot when I restarted.  So here's what I did to get it working:

1) Start with your new drive unpartitioned and unformatted, Ghost 15 will see it (just be sure it's plugged in)

2) Copy drive and select the following:

Set drive active (for booting OS)

Resize drive to fill unallocated space (if you don't select this, your new larger drive will have 2 partitions)

     Copy MBR

     Primary Partiion (NOT Logical)

3) In my case, I also had to select "Ignore bad sectors during copy" because my old drive was starting to fail

4) Once complete, disconnect your old drive, switch cables so your computer can see the new drive as the primary boot drive

5) Restart using your Windows XP setup CD so you can run the recovery console on your CD

6) Once in the recovery console, type  fixboot  and restart (if this doesn't work, you will need to run  fixmbr  and then  fixboot in the recovery console)

7) You will need to reactivate Windows because of the new hard drive

After 2 days of trying just about everything I found here on the forums and on the internet, this worked great and it only took a couple minutes.

Thanks Norton, all your products work great for me.
