thanks for the feedback. I did check the MS site and has followed the instruction given by MS. For the life of me, I couldn’t find where to add the trusted link in the Norton 360 v2. Any help would be apprecitaed/.
umm, not easy is it. Unlike Windows Firewall in Vista, this is not easy in NOrton 360 AFAIK.
However, I believe you could achieve this using Traffic Rules under Firewall Protection Settings. It is not obvious, but when you create a traffic rule, you will get to the section "What computers or sites do you want to allow?" Then you can specify a site "individually" using the url e.g. www,.symantec.com or the IP of the site, which you can get using "ping".
Dont forget that you need to change the order of items in the traffic rules to get what you desire. As a starter you coul move your new rule to the top of the list just to see if you created it correctly and that it works.
Hope that helps.
thanks for the replies. I reinstalled Windows and norton to my other system and it actually has no issue with update. Iam not sure what’s wrong after I have uninstall the Norton and on this system. Anyone has a solution so that I can get the update without disabling the firewall first.
I do not wish to appear rude, but I simply do not understand you problem. It seems to me here, that you are using Norton 360 v2 and yet on another thread you are stating that you cannot scan a file or folder, when we have explained that this function is only NOT available in version 1 and is available in version 2. So since right mouse click enables you to select Norton scan for a file or folder, I do not see what your problem is.
Moving to your new message, it is not clear whether you are uninstalling Norton on one system or indicating you have a problem on another system on which you have already uninstalled Norton. I did ask questions in one of my earlier posts, but you have not replied.
Maybe someone other contributor can come to the rescue.
Sorry for the confusing. I was browsing through the threads and post a reply when I see fit.
Okay, for the issue on this thread: I cannot get Windows update on this system after I have completely uinstalled Norton 360 v2. The error that I got is 80072EFD ERROR. If I disable Norton's firewall, I can then get Windows update to work.
What I meant with the earlier post is that I did a clean installation of Windows and installed Norton on that machine, I can then get Windows update without any issue. So I am not sure what's wrong with the program after I did an uninstall and reinstall.
As for the contextual scan. I simply mean that I cannot choose a folder or a drive to install with the right click on my Vista 64 machine (which I think is a problem with the Norton 360 and Vista 64, unless I am mistaken).

This contradicts itself!! If you completely unistall norton 360, then there is no Norton firewall left to disable.... Do you mean that after you reinstall that you have to disable the firwall to get windows update to work?

This paragraph further confuses the issue? Are we talking about another machine here?

Correct, the feature is not available in Vista x64...

4runner, does Putale mean “install” or “scan”. I am not sure which feature he is referring to and which is not available in Vista x64.
Yes. I guess I was not being too clear. I uninstalled the software due to the constant scanning issue. I also use the uninstaller to remove any traces of old norton program Afterwards, I then reinstalled the Norton 360. After reinstall, I cannot get to Windows update without first diable the firewall.
Good,. OK. Now we need to know what you mean "you cannot get to Windows update. Are you using IE7 or another web browser.
If IE7 do you select Tools, Windows Update. Does it resolve to the Microsoft update page, checking your system. Do you get to the page where you can select Express or custom?
Exactly what point do you get to and what error or message do you get?
Can you navigate to other websites with the Firewall enabled.
Yes, i am using ie7. i did try that. it's not detecting it. When i click on "windows update" and it brought the windows update page. then I click on "check for updates" it gave me error 80072efd, as if it cannot detect the server.
web page navigation has no issue at all.
May I suggest that you respond to the messages in this thread from other contributors. Your answers are important to understanding your problem.
It is still confusing "Its not detecting it" is not clear. What is not detecting what?
You have an error, and I have provided you with a Microsoft paper that specifically deals with this error and code.
You need to implement the proposal. I believe this is possible by setting up entries under firewall. I already wrote you a message in this thread.
What have you done about the above?
Thank you so much for your help.
When I said "not detecting it", I meant that the Windows Update program cannot connect to the MS's server to detect any updates.
The only way I can get the Windows Update to show the available udpates is disable the firewall.
I searched online and it seems that I can put the Windows Update in teh firewall as safe/approved sites. Unfortunately, I don't see where in teh Norton 360 that I can enter the sites for the Windows Update as safe sites.
I think we have gone full circle. I answered this is message no 4. The trouble is I do not have your error, I cannot reproduce your error, and I cannot test the ability therefore to create the firewall entries. My msg, No4 , is a possible solution.
If your know the sites.url of Windows update then you go to RUN command and enter cmd
then ping www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate
The ping returns 65.55.184.125 - so with this information you can go to Norton firewall and create a traffic rule, that fully allows traffic to 65.55.182.125. Then move the rule to the top of the page and close.
hi, I had to reinstall Norton 360 v2 the other day. I am having a major problem. After reinstall I cannot access Vista update page anymore. I keep getting the WindowsUpdate_80072EFD error. When I disable the firewall, I can then access the Vista update page.
I am using Vista 64.
Any help would be appreciated.
(on a related note, I also have an issue when I uninstall nvidia's system tool 6.02, it renders Norton 360 not working). Anyone has this issue?
Other contributors may be able to indicate if this is a Norton 360 issue. However, it would be useful to know if you are using a proxy server, if you have already activated/authentificated your copy of Vista. Next you could add the website to the firewall allow list.
