Something happened to my desktop Norton Internet Security 2010 that is making me crazy. I saw many similar posts recently indicating "solved" but none of these solutions applied to me. As I use Norton for many years I decided to post a message to see if I get a solution for that.
A few weeks ago I noticed I was not being able to connect to the internet using my home wireless network. I noticed also I am still able to connect with my laptop.
I just cliked on Norton's desktop icon to see if some paarameter needed to be adjusted and, next to the WinXP watch on the taskbar a message appeared in the baloon saying that uistub.exe is corrupted and I need to run chkdsk to fix it.
Apparently WinXP automatically scheduled chkdsk to run beacuse on the next boot, it started with a blue screen and chkdsk started and run completely before the system reboots again and then allowed me to log in.
Now each time I boot the machine it starts beginning with chkdsk.
I chose to uninstall Norton Internet Security 2010 using the Control Panel Add or Remove Programs tool. On the NIS screen for uninstall I chose Uninstall completely (not preserving data for future reinstallation).
The first time it reboots after uninstall chkdsk started again and run completely after allowing me to log in to WinXP.
Then, on registry, on HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603 on name 000 type REG_SZ the value "uistub" was there.
So I found uistub also on the following keys :

If I reboot again the computer (second time after uninstalling Norton Insternet Scurity 2010) chkdsk does not runs on boot; WinXP goes straight to the login screen.
Even this time uistub appears on the registry
When I finally reboot again (3rd time after uninstall) and reinstall NIS 2010 again, I got the same error (uistub failure).
Even if I clean manually the registry do not leaving a single trace of uistub, Norton and Symantec references, the error keeps happening
