Wireless connection not working

I have Norton 360 v3.5xxx installed.

My wireless connection suddently stopped working and seems to coincide with the upgrade to 3.5.  I am writing this message from another computer as I no longer have a connection with the affected computer.

What i mean by wireless not working is there is simply an "x" in the notification area and when i click it to refresh it doesn't find and networks.  My laptop works fine on the wireless, so it is not an issue with the internet or router.

Has anyone had similar problems and is there a fix for this?

Your kind help will be most appreciated.

Additional note:

I noticed that Norton posted a "Fix" KB20090821103237EN.exe. for v3.5.  If i download this fix to another computer and save it to the affected computer and run it, will it solve my problem.

That is for the Framework error.

Try reseting the firewall by going to Settings > Firewall > General Settings > Firewall Reset > Reset [+] .  Then reboot your system and see if the wireless connects after that.

Ok I tried this, but does not resolve the problem.

Any other suggestions?

Is this a USB connected adapter or a built in wireless interface card?  Since you mentioned a laptop, I am thinking this is a desktop system; is this correct?

Please go to your Device Manager ( from START > Control Panel ), expand the Network Adapter branch, select the adapter you are having trouble with and right click on it.  Select Uninstall.  Once this is finished, close the Device Manager window and the Control Panel window.  Reboot your system and see if Windows finds the adapter automatically and installs it.  If it doesn't then go back to the Device Manager window and tell the system to refresh by selecting Network Adapters and Actions > Scan for hardware changes.

Once the device is reinstalled, test your connectivity and let us know if it works now.

Yes this is a desktop with an internal card.

I will try this tomorrow by bringing it at the office tech, as I want to verify if i plug the desktop into a hardwire connection to see if the connection works that way.

If it does, then I know its the wireless card.

If it doesn't work, then I know the problem is elsewhere and not with the card.

I will post with my findings.

Thanks

Strange Thing.

I checked the network adapters as you said and noticed that for each adapter (wireless and reg hardwire) Notron added an additional entry for each card and the end of the entry it says :  " - Symantec Network Security Miniport" at the end.

NOTE:  Each of the 2 norton entries has a yellow exclamation mark on the icon, to indicate its not working.

Very strange.

My other 2 computers with Norton 360 v3, do not have these entries, as i guess they were not updated to v3.5.

After Norton automatically updated to v3.5 on Aug. 20th, I lost all connectivity to the internet. As it turns out after a little digging and some help from one of the members here, I discovered the following:

Under Device Manager --> Hardware ---> Network Adapters

I noticed that Norton added 3 entries, each ending with " - Symantec Network Security Miniport".  The entries are for: 1. wireless adapter, 2. reg. adapter and 3. WLan.  Each of the 3 has a yellow exclamation mark to indicate it is not working.

The 2 real hardware adapters work fine, but something is something is stopping me from accessing the internet.  I assume its Norton.

Unless someone suggests something eles, I will try to uninstall Norton 360 v3.5 with the Removal Tool and see if connectivity comes back.  If I still cannot connect, not sure what I will do next.  Perhaps reinstall the 2 drivers.  But I have searched on this issue (with very little results), that even after removing Norton, users were unable to remove the affected 3 drivers that Norton installed.

Anyone have any clue?  Thanks

Running NRT is the best possible option right now. Uninstall the product to see if the network connectivity works fine. You can then reinstall the 3.5.0.11 which is ready to go (per AstroVet's announcement).

Follow the instructions in the above mentioned announcement, and grab the latest one. Let us know how you get on.
