Your PC requires disk optimization to improve performance

Why am I bothered with such messages?

Firstly, I'm buying Norton to be protected against malware, I have no use of all the annoying things around like performance monitoring, backup, cleanup of all sorts, regular invading reports, opinion of the community on my downloads, and whatever else is poured into this monstrous system that eats up more and more resources instead of quietly doing what it should.

Then the settings are clearly set to "Performance monitoring:  Off".

I had to take N360 because with the other, simpler Symantec products, I'm getting even more messages on cookies being so suspicious, on the applications I'm compiling with gcc being probably trojan horses or at the very least worth deleting immediately, and without any possibility to tell Norton to leave me alone about those false positives. And now this, is there a new product (Norton 720?) I have to buy in order to be left alone? Is that another kind of devious marketing incentive?

I sincerely hope there's an easy answer to my simple question, because I have another I'm contemplating seriously - changing completely of protection system. I'm already a bit annoyed that for an extra PC, I have to buy 3 more licences - and if I do that from Norton itself, I have to pay even more than simply buying from the Norton website (probably the price of already being a long-time customer?).

... And of course now we have to post those questions in forums, because there is no direct support. Progress.

Thanks, but I'm afraid you're wrong on most accounts, and you failed to answer the main question of the OP:

- As I was saying, it's not possible to turn off the message of the OP, unless it's a hidden settings?

- Regarding the licences, I currently have 3 seats, if I need to protect one extra computer, I compelled to buy 3 additional seats of which I only need one. And it's quite costly. So I need 1, not 3, not 5, I don't see why I'd have to pay double for one more, whereas I'm already subscribed to 3 (I would expect the fees to be marginally lower for more licences).

- If, from Norton, I click on "Protect Additional PCs", I get this offer (for some obscure reason it's in Dutch): "Norton 360™Productsleutel Eén jaar beveiliging voor 3 pc's Uitgebreide en gebruiksvriendelijke bescherming voor uw computer, uw identiteit en uw bestanden € 63,99". I suppose that means it's indeed for 3 PC's, for one year, 63.99 € (why not round up to 64 is beyond me, those old tricks don't fool anyone anymore). So it's 64€ / year for 3 more licences.

- From the site, same country, it's "39,99 € 1 an/3 PC" (here French is forced upon me). So 40 € instead of 64 for the same, from the same provider. Because I'm not logged on and not recognized as a faithfull customer, I'm paying less.

- I'm sorry, I was kidding about Norton 720, I didn't know it actually existed (and I didn't know that I was probably right about needing to upgrade to this version to get rid of those annoying messages...).

- N360 was sold to me because it had more settings than NIS, in which I couldn't turn down the many useless alerts (see my OP) in the administrative settings, and indeed I could finally turn them off. I would be surprised that now N360 had less settings than NIS. And also very disappointed.

N360 does have less settings that you can change than you can with NAV and NIS.

@floplot,

What setting does NIS have that Norton 360 does not have?  I have read many NIS users saying something similar but not once has anyone posted exactly what setting/s N360 does not have that NIS does.

Thanks!

Mischiew,

You can turn off Notifications by going to Settings > Administrative Settings > Norton Task Notification.  Change that to Off > Apply.

You can also go to Settings > Task Scheduling and uncheck any  tasks that you do not want N360 to run.

I hope that helps, but if not please let us know.
